October 22, 2010 Mr. Prado Museum has acquired for his collection of painting, "Wine on the occasion of the feast of St. Martin" by Pieter Brueghel the Elder,
previously discovered and authorized conservators of the museum, according to
Artdaily with reference to the Minister of Culture of Spain Ángeles González-Sind.
We recall the painting discovered recently, it was kept in a private collection, the owner is not aware of the true author of the picture. He appealed to the Prado Museum with a request to restore the painting, it is in the process of restoration and found that it was written by Breughel.
Restorers have studied painting since the beginning of this year, and helped to identify the authorship of the X-rays - in the left corner of the canvas, under the number 31 - it's inventory number - stood out fragments of the author's name.
The painting depicts a crowd of people around the barrels of new wine. This canvas, presumably written between 1565 and 1568 years, is considered one of the most important works by Brueghel, its size is 148 to 270.5 centimeters. The added value of the painting gives the fact that to date only 40 known works by Brueghel.
Purchase cost the museum del Prado at 7 million euros, but, as previously reported, its auction value can be several times higher.
