"The figure in the movement" belongs to Paul Brass (Paul Brass), who was the personal physician and close friend of Bacon. In 1985 the artist invited Brass choose any of his paintings as a gift. The doctor chose one, but Bacon led him to the recently completed "figure in the movement," and assured him that it is much more significant work, Brass and listened to his advice. Painting was in the Tate Gallery and in the Bacon retrospective was exhibited in Paris, London, The Hague and Moscow.

This is the second painting of Bacon sold by the breaststroke. First he put the hammer in 1994, also through the auction house Sotheby's.

Francis Bacon (1909-1992) is one of the most expensive artists of the twentieth century. In 2008 his "Nude" was sold for nearly $ 40 million, a triptych - more than 86 million, "Three sketch to self-portrait" - more than 34 million.
