People's Artist of Russia (1998).
In 1951 he graduated from the Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art, where he studied under Pavel Kuznetsov and Alexander Kuprina.
Since 1958 worked with the magazine "Murzilka."
Illustrated more than 300 children's books, including Ya.Akima, A.Aleksina, T.Aleksandrovoy, A.Barto, I.Tokmakovoy, T.Belozerova, V.Berestova, V.Bianki, E.Veltistova, Gaidar, B . work on the YAR in 1985 - a gold medal at the BIB in Bratislava for his illustrations for the book O.Proyslera "Krabat" in 1988 - an honorary diploma HC Andersen for his illustrations for the book I.Tokmakovoy "Carousel."
