Alberto Giacometti
Swiss sculptor, painter and graphic artist
October 10, 1901 - January 11, 1966

Alberto Giacometti was born October 10, 1901 in the family of artist Giovanni Giacometti. Interest in art came from Alberto in early childhood, when he began sculpting and painting.

In 1919-1920 he studied painting in Geneva, the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the School of Arts and Crafts class sculpture. In 1920 and 1921 traveled to Italy, where he became acquainted with the classics of Italian art and monuments of ancient Rome.

Since 1922 he lived and worked in Paris, where he became friends with André Breton, Louis Aragon, Picasso, Miro, Max Ernst, Sartre, Beckett and others studied at the Studio Grand Shomer Bourdelle in Paris. Summer months spent in Switzerland.

Giacometti's early work done in a realistic manner, but in Paris he was influenced by cubism, and enjoys the art of Africa, Oceania, ancient America.

After the Second World War, during which Giacometti lived in Geneva, he comes to a new, more humanistic style of sculpture, portrait painting and drawing. In sculpture, Giacometti's mature is the problem of the relation of volumes and masses, the enigma of the human figure in painting and drawing - the problem of spatial depth, the mystery of the human face.

In later years the sculptor has won many awards. Large retrospective exhibitions of his work were held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Zurich (1962) and the Museum of Modern Art in New York (1965).

Giacometti died in the town of Chur in Switzerland, January 11, 1966.

TALO be in this year marks the 110th anniversary of his birth - congratulations to all who have a passion for his art!
Created by Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti (Alberto Giacometti) in 1961, a bronze statue of "Walking Man" was in February 2010, the most expensive work of art in the world. At London's Sotheby's widow Brazilian banker Edmond Safra Lily Safra has posted it for £ 65 million ($ 104.3 million). The initial price of the lot bar was set at 4 times lower than from the final.

Giacometti's always wanted to sculpt strange shapes "people-matches", deprived of natural proportions and facial features, standing or walking for a disproportionately long legs. In this way the artist tried to draw attention to the fragility of our existence and soreness in his attempts to rise above them. His bronze sculptures by Giacometti covered with small facet, which allows you to hold and absorb light. Thus was born the impression that the surrounding air corrodes the surface shape, and its uneven surface gives the impression of emotional tension and anxiety.

183-centimeter sculpture "Walking Man" is in some sense spiritual self-portrait of the author, who, despite their vulnerability, delicacy, and loneliness, obstinately continued to move towards achieving these goals.
