International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence - so it is entirely called, held since 1997. and created, presumably, in defiance of Venice, but at the same time to attract tourists during the winter (the event is held in late November - early December). This year is scheduled from 5 to 13 December.
Composition artists of the exhibition is formed on the basis of personal invitations from experts in the field of art belonging to the Scientific Committee and the Internal Committee of the Biennale. The selection of artists is done without any bias with regard to styles and schools categories: painting, sculpture, drawing, mixed media, photography, digital art.

Schaslivchik who received the invitation, are awarded the honor to pay a substantial fee (this year asked 2,700 euros), gets 15 square feet of exhibition space in the Fortezza da Basso and the right to put up to three works.
Florence Biennale allows the artist to choose work for the exhibition and gives each participant the same exhibition space.

Second fiddle to the exhibition of art is art stars arriving to get awards, read lectures, pooobschatsya with exhibiting artists, and, in some cases, to show their work. In 2005, the main attraction were Christo and Jean-Claude, who was given a "lifetime achievement" (and as thanks for advertising the event) prize Lorenzo the Magnificent.

If you have a good sponsor or extra money - you can go.
This Biennale is one of the so-called vanity show (such as Vanity Fair) - a show, Florence to see with other artists to communicate. But - send works, insurance, travel, lodging - at his own expense.
Employees Biennale Organizing Committee for every friend who paid for their participation, get the carrot. Naturally, they compete for the number of gingerbread.

Maybe some sort of practical result: advertising, celebrity, purchase?

I like the French, as they are able to use pictorial plastic and they have no citations, and plastic conversation. Great!

The artist and the official sponsor, if any, are awarded a thick and beautiful album, the exhibition catalog, which include the logos of sponsors and all exhibited works (each party - on the page). And a medal or a diploma, if the artist was awarded a prize (in each category will be awarded 3.4 awards).
This artist can then demonstrate to its customers (of which not all understand the difference between Venice and Florence Biennale)

For advertising event organizers save, so that the Biennale has little resonance in the world. Purchasing third-party galleries are possible, but not very likely. Artists from all over the world come quite a lot: 700-800. Most of the countries where many wealthy sponsors or a lack of art infrastructure.

I looked at international forums, the discussion of ex-members of the Biennale. The prevailing view is that hang out there nice, but in monetary terms far better to spend money on promotional activities in the home. "

Pavel, let us, if you do not mind, ask Admin and, to transfer the message#5, 6, 11 - 15 in the subject Florence Biennale, in section of the exhibition, events? And then the conversation unfolds, which prevents the perception of the current theme.

Pavel, I've just discovered the issue to me. Physically not have time to monitor everything that happens on the forum. Your previous message here, I had read before correction - when the issue was not yet. If you had asked me via the private messaging system, you'd have an immediate response.

The fundamental difference between the Florence Biennale of many others is that this event is held in the means of the artists themselves, but for the organizers of these funds - a source of income. Press this Biennale much weaker than that of Venice. The level of work in general on average, though not without a pleasant exception. Sponsors are looking for independent artists in their own countries, and advertising the sponsor's logo on the front pages of the catalog is intended to help artists to persuade sponsors to fork.

The square of 80x80 pixels - the format for pictures, the prescribed rules of the forum, and black color - the color is zero (in the computer sense): it contains a minimum of information, providing absolute freedom of imagination. This figure has an infinite symbolic potential.
