Well there mb a dozen other did not reach the level of recognition of their market artists. And the rest - do not suck, of course, but their works, we at Sotheby's and Christie will never see it.
Well, God bless him, with those Sotheby's, Christie's. "Could we came to those of Tahiti, our home and well fed" (from the famous cartoon).
I think that most people on this topic of interest rates is not rare to "exchange" and popular artists, namely, the bulk of a more modest price tags.

By comparing the potential earnings on investing in art, let me give you the information that I received on April 29 at a seminar in ArtInvestment. Their site is an interesting figure, like a stock index. ARTIMX-RUS shows the average profits earned by investing in the Russian art (including graphics and painting). So, the beginning of 2001 has become embedded thousand rubles at the peak in early 2008 at about 2500 rubles. Profit for seven years was 150%. It should be borne in mind that later during the crisis, the index fell to 1700 units. Is it much or little? A similar investment index for Western Art Artist's ARTIMX increased over the same period from 1000 to 1500, ie investments in Western art has been significantly less profitable in comparison with Russian. What is surprising, since there was a boom in Russian art.

Now let banking conditions:
if you put money on deposit at the bank rubles for seven years, during this period at an annual yield from year to year: 15%, 15, 14, 14, 13, 13, 13%, we get the same 2500 rub. But without any risk! I considered the real interest rate on deposits at the moment, given the anticipated decrease in rates, but do not take into account the capitalization. Let me remind you that the deposit up to 700 thousand rubles are fully insured by the State.

But the yield on bank deposit do not compare with the yield obtained for the same time on the Russian stock market. RTS index over the same period from the beginning of 2001 to early 2008 rose from 250 to 2500! The increase amounted to 900%! As can be seen, the returns on stocks are far higher average returns on art.

You can argue that some artists have risen very seriously. Well, well. Some people are lucky and someone on this very strongly earned. Another (the bulk of investors) are not lucky, and people either earn very little for the arts, or lost their money. And do not be too happy to listen carefully the stories of those who are incredibly lucky. Much the same can be said about the action: some shares grew better market average, some - worse. On average, we got those figures that I quoted.

All these figures are easily verified.

SUMMARY.

1) Earn Money in the stock market is much easier than on the art market.

2) There are many mutual funds that will invest the money. Of course, there is not so perfect as we would like. But, unlike the art-business, mutual funds work very well regulated by the state - get on the scam is almost impossible. There is a risk of losing out on a falling share prices, as there is a risk of losing out on cheaper prices of paintings at the time of crisis.

3) The service mutual fund is much cheaper than the service art dealer, and is no more than 1%.

4) Taxes also lower, stocks are no fakes.

I think, that we must earn in other places other than the art market: more profitable, easier, safer. And the images have to buy just for fun. Група only people who can definitely make good money at investment myths about art - it auctions, galleries and art dealers. That they tell of those lucky ones who have earned a lot of money on the art market. As well as artists, but to a much lesser extent. Unfortunately.
