In the early years, he turns to a thematic painting, writing large canvases with figures in full-length ("A woman with a stroller," 1927; "fitter", 1928), but these experiments have not received further development. Landscape, portrait, still life - that's their favorite genres of the artist. It is limited to a close the world, whether it's a circle of relatives and friends, a neighborhood shop or the items that are always at hand ("Woman with chicken," 1930; "Portrait of the Son, ca. 1933; landscapes of the Petrograd side 1930).. In fact, the only genre to which gravitated Rusakov, a genre painting of the lyrics. During the war, the artist remained in Leningrad, he continued to work and was exhibited at the exhibition of the blockade in 1943 Siege landscapes are among his best works.
