Default Leon Kossof (1926)

I have already said that I was one with great affection to the creation of this artist. Today I offer you a selection of his work. I decided to refrain from commenting - see and make conclusions for yourself.
Description of works and their sizes are given under the images.

The life of this artist's seemingly nothing remarkable: in 1943 he enrolled in art school, SW, Martin, and attended evening classes at Toynbee Hall. After army service in 1949, he returned to the school of St. Martin, where from 1950 to 1952. dealt with separately by David Bomberg. At it influenced other disciple Bomberga - Frank Auerbach. In the works of these hudozhnkov there is a significant stylistic similarities, in particular, pastoznost painting.
In 1959 he began teaching at the Polytechnic Institute s Regent Street, in art school in Chelsea and at St. Martin. Soon followed a series of exhibitions - solo and group, on which his work side by side with the works of Auerbach, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud.
In 1996, Tate was organized by his big retrospective.

Leon Kossoff - artist of the so-called School of London (London school). This name came up American artist Ronald Brooks Kitty (Ronald Brooks Kitaj, 1932-2007) in 1970. Now associated with such artists as Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach. London School decisively chose figurative art at a time when abstract art was everywhere triumphant.

In the first message is very similar to Auerbach, but not so strong. I'm more like the second and third.

As prices Kosoff behind Auerbach's record and is selling at the Brush School in 2008 of red brick in 1981 (photo 27) for 337tysyach pounds.

At the auction of Contemporary Art, Sotheby's will be only one work Kossoff, but what!
Actually, the last time I watched a lot of them, and now Kossoff I like even more than Auerbach.

Expressionism Kirchner and Schmidt-Rottluff - Drama, and at Kossofa - rather aesthetically. Such so intelligent, organized, sensual nervousness - even on the subjects. Expressionism - is when the feelings between the dynamic and canvas is hand so that the technique gives a very recognizable "similar" things, but on the source material experiences - some are different. Expressionism involves dramatic (tragic?) Beginning art. The Germans at the expense of the dramatic figure, the plot, while Kossofa
Auerbach's more drama and the creative act - the battle of the artist with colors and texture of life.
I do not say "better-worse" God forbid, just an interesting material for analysis.
Thanks Liana!

But gentlemen, Kirchner and Schmidt-Rotlyuf for comparison:
