Default Question artists

Question artists. What is the sequence of writing the portrait if the model is very little time for posing?

Imagine a time of war, specifically Italy, November 1943. The artist should paint a portrait of a famous military commander in the rank of Army General (later Field Marshal will be), in his submission there are more than 120000 people. No big battles, but the local fighting - across the front line, besides preparing for large-scale offensive, which should begin next week. Frontline situation does not allow him to pay for photo opportunities and a half hours, and then called into question. Apparently, the full-length portrait of one and a half hours in any form is not enough. You would start by writing a short sketch, the sketch and if you get a good sitters and approve this, they would do a portrait (starting, naturally, with those for the form and so on. You can write and then). Or would do a portrait at once without thumbnails, saving time? Finish the portrait would still have to then, no longer a model. The responsibility is large, this general is known, it knows everything. Any error will be noticed. What would you do?

Yes, I forgot to say that the artist of this man very close to this has ever seen. His face was very mobile, even in the photographs are often quite different, I would say trudnovosproizvodimoe.

And if you do as you said, at least Underpainting should be shown to the customer? What if the customer does not like it? Composition, perspective, lighting, posture model, turning heads, etc. - There are many factors to consider should be: a person knows his own worth.

Gala portrait - it's not a problem for an experienced artist. Another thing psychological, in which case you should well know person whose draw.
It is important to always know - good works are not created by the artist, they are just born. No matter how you prepare and set to work, always of the hundreds
medium or decent work will only have one great. (Unless you're lucky)
And I was always and still is, amazing artists who are able to stop fast motion.
Images of animals, the movement of waves and so on. I find it difficult to understand.
question. And what eventually happened with your artist?

The result was a graphic portrait of feathering, executed in black and white chalk. Unfortunately, I could hardly get a not very high-quality reproductions (see 6). The artist Sam Morse-Brown (Sam Morse-Brown, 1903 - 2001). The original is in the Imperial War Museum (Imperial War Museum), London. It is considered one of the best portraits Montgomery: he wanted to keep it, but still had to give to the museum. This - not a front portrait, such portraits with Montgomery to write a lot (see for example, 7), even messing painting Dwight Eisenhower wrote it, but many - not very successful, a person is not caught. " Compare with its most famous photographs (see 1 - 5): Still a person is difficult to write.

So, perhaps it was. The fact that I have found a sketch of the portrait - an ordinary pencil drawing. But with the signature of the artist, but, more importantly, an autographed BL Montgomery. The fact that the artist from 1939 to 1945 created a gallery - about 200 portraits of heroes and leading commanders of the Second World War. A distinctive feature of them is that they are genuine autographs depicted persons. So I wanted to find a place in my sketch of this history.
