Exhibition "The Soviet woman in Estonian art" opened in Tallinn

TALLINN, April 7th - RIA Novosti, Nikolai Adashkevich. The exhibition "The Soviet woman in Estonian art", which offers a fresh look at the image of Soviet women in art, on Wednesday opened in KUMU Art Museum in Tallinn, the Estonian television reported.

Along with the usual portraits of farmers and traktoristok, the exhibition also presents the images of poets and artists, actresses and members of Song Festival in folk costumes. Most of the exhibits, like paintings and sculptures, are made in strict accordance with the laws of the post-war socialist realism.

"Artists and then, looking back, saying that if you had the chance, they would have preferred to portray members of the intelligentsia, art and culture. These themes are considered not as ideological as the images of workers and farmers", - said the Institute of Arts Art Academy of Estonia Katrin Kivimaa .

As a result, in Estonian art, in addition to images of shock worker, there are portraits of artists, writers, poets and dancers of the time, or ordinary women employed in housekeeping. Not the last place in the exhibition is also paintings of the Song Celebration participating in national costumes.

Exhibits picked up in many museums in the country, including the Estonian History Museum, theater and music museum and private collections. Some of the work has not yet been revealed to the public. The exhibition will be open until September 26.
