Name Martiros Saryan (1880-1972), a brilliant painter, a theoretician and an outstanding public figure, belongs to the Russian culture and simultaneously a symbol of Armenian art. The artist's works are on permanent display in the Tretyakov Gallery, but for our museum showing his collection of works by S. Saryan entirely.

MS Saryan studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, parallel assimilating the lessons of Impressionism and the principle plane of decorative painting in the workshop by Valentin Serov and Konstantin Korovin. Since entering college, he made friends with his classmates PV Kuznetsov, PS Utkin and other young Symbolists and joined the trends of the French art of the late XIX-XX centuries.

MS Saryan always felt a leaning to national origins. The artist first went to Armenia in the age of twenty, and unique landscapes and colors of life of the people of this country gave a powerful impetus to his creative quest.

 
In 1907, the MS Saryan participated in the landmark exhibition for the Symbolists "Blue Rose" cycle "Tales and Dreams". Both he and his companions were close to the fantastic imagery of fairy tales, which enable the free circulation of form and color. The artist has developed his own, unlike any other, a picturesque manner. "On one side Saryan were mystics, led by Kuznetsov, on the other - hoaxer - Sapunov, Sudeikin Milioti" - wrote A. Efros. MS Saryan, with its lively and direct perception of reality, was close position of the child - the true embodiment of art in understanding the symbolism.

Subsequent performances at the exhibitions of the Union of Russian Artists "and" World of Art Saryan bring success, and in 1911-1913 years by the Tretyakov Gallery was acquired his painting "Green Pitcher" (1910), as recommended by Valentin Serov "Wisteria" (1910 ), "Grapes" (1911), "Pitchers and Fruit" (1912) and others.

After the death of the artist to the gallery through the efforts of the collector and researcher I. Zilberstein received work "Gazelle" (1926), was exhibited at the first personal exhibition of foreign masters in Paris in 1928. This landmark for creativity MS Saryan's work, according to the artist, synthesized tasks, which he had set himself. In it he presented nature as a living creature.

 
Collection of Works MS Saryan the State Tretyakov Gallery is varied and includes more than 60 works. The exhibition includes paintings, watercolors and drawings, created by the artist since 1906.

Exhibited the works written by MS Saryan during the creative journey of the Middle East - Turkey, Egypt and Persia - "Constantinople. Dogs" (1910), "date palm. Egypt" (1911), portraits of people close to the spirit of the artist -- Anna Akhmatova, actor ND Mordvinova, Armenian painter Hachatura Yesayan, still lifes created in the period 1930 - 1950, etudes 1950 - 1960.

MS Saryan worked hard over the design of theatrical productions: at the State Theater of Armenia, the Yerevan Opera House, in early 1930 - the Moscow musical theater KS Stanislavkogo and V.I.Nemirovicha-Danchenko. Some sketches made for productions at the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater, also represented at the exhibition.
