At the exhibition "brush stroke" Russian Museum for the first time shows the most significant part of
its collection of modern art:
75 paintings "New Artist" and participants in the movement "Nekrorealizm. But museum
exhibited 132 works from private collections of St. Petersburg and Moscow. So
way, "brush stroke" provides an opportunity to fully present the whole historical
revolutionary art of turning the 1980's.
In October 1982, twenty-four Timur Novikov overcome the situation of public and
artistic stagnation and formed his own group called "New Artists". It
included Ivan Sotnikov, Oleg Kotelnikov, Cyril Khazanovich, Evgenii Kozlov, Georgi Gur'yanov. In
first half of 1980 they were joined by Vadim Ovchinnikov, Sergey Bugaev-Africa,
Vladislav Gutsevich, Andrei Medvedev, Andrei Krisanov and Inal Savchenkov. By the end of 1980 in group
consisted of more than 70 people. "New Artists" inspired two ideas of the avant-garde: "zero
culture ", that is essentially searching for common and worn-out senses, and" everythingness "
Larionov, Zdanevich. They tried to revive the ecological space of life and
culture, to make art out of everything and permanent creative process did not cease in their gallery
"ACCA" (gallery room served Novikova resided in a communal apartment). Interest

creates a landmark restructuring of the film "Assa" Sergei Bugaev in the title role. At the same time, Timur
Novikov, Sergei Bugaev-Africa are beginning to gather a collection of paintings "New" and in 1991
give it to the Russian Museum, which was re-opened of the newest trends, established in 1920
Nikolai Punin, a famous ideologist of Russian avant-garde. This symbolic gift
Novikov completes the story of his group, because for him and his friends had already reached its peak
revolutionary period of storm and stress.
