artist, teacher, writer, historian 16/03/1871 - 12/08/1942 Born in with. Lyutichev Khmelnitsky region. In 1889 he studied at Kiev University, where he was expelled for participating in the student speeches. The recommendation of M. Savina in 1890 was adopted by an actor in Kamenetz-Podolsk Russian troupe. Played on the stages of theaters in many cities of Ukraine and Russia, together with such artists as M. Savina, V. Komissarzhevskaya, P. Orlenev etc. He played a number of design shows. Attended KRSH N. Murashko, where he studied under N. Pimonenko and H. Platonov. On the recommendation of J. Stanislavsky admitted to the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts (Class Y. Stanislavsky, then - F. Rushitsa). In 1910 in Paris, worked in the studio of Matisse, and later - in the Free AI Ransona. From 1912 he lived in Kiev. Member of the T-wah Kiev artists, T-wah Ukrainian artists. One of the founders of Ukrainian AI (in 1918 - its president). From 1925 he worked in Kharkov. One of the founders ARIU member OSHU, exhibitor AHKU, chairman of the Kharkov Central Bureau of Arts. Lectured at the Kharkiv Art College (1925 - 1927) and HHI (1925 - 1931, since 1927 - professor). Honored Artist of the USSR in 1936, Honored Artist of the USSR in 1941.
