   In 1884-1887 he studied at the Academy R. Julien in Paris L.-ZH. Pelyuza, while the advice of AP Bogolyubov. In 1887-1888 he lived in Düsseldorf, studied under the guidance of Professor E. Culvert. In 1888-1889 he studied at the IAH.
   He lived in St. Petersburg. He worked as a landscape painter, turned to the technique of watercolor. Participated in academic exhibitions (1887, 1893, 1915, 1916), shows TPHV (1891, 1917). Since 1895 - Member of the Society of Russian watercolors, in 1904-1918 served as chairman of the Society (Member Exhibition 1893, 1895, 1897, 1900, 1902-1904, 1909-1916, 1918). Member and exhibitor of the St. Petersburg Society of Artists (1894-1895, 1897-1903). In 1904, became one of the founders of the Association of Artists (exhibitions, 1904-1907, 1909-1912, 1914). One of the founders of the Society of Artists. AIKuindzhi. Exhibited his work as the All-Russia industrial and agricultural exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896), the World Exhibitions in Paris (1900), Rome (1911) and others.
   In 1905 he was awarded the title of academician in 1912 - Full Member of IAH. After the October Revolution of 1917 was a member of the commission Narcompros to acquire works of art.
   Bergholz's prominent masters of Russian landscape school abroad XIX - XX centuries, whose work was largely focused on the art market in those years. In his works the artist developed a line of lyric landscape, skillfully combining the traditions of the late academic and Peredvizhnichestvo. Favorite motif of his paintings and watercolors are usually aged in muted colors were changeable state of nature - spring and autumn landscapes, in which Bergholz sought impression of immediacy of a living perception of nature workshop transmission of light and air.
   Bergholz works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, the Research Academy of Art Museum Russia, Penza Regional Picture Gallery of. K. Savitsky, and others.
