After almost three months after the first exhibition, which was an interesting project Dmitry Gutova "Drawings of Rembrandt, and without waiting for development activity Rublevsky institutions, we ourselves went to GridchinHall and found not very typical for Russia, the institutional form of the project. Whatever may be considered GridchinHall - gallery, private collection or patronage project - it looks strange.

Sergei Gridchin opened his room recently and still confidently declares that his company has a non-commercial nature and is intended only to help artists realize and show their projects. Perhaps this feature can be explained by the temporary absence of sales, and as soon as the situation changes, along with her to ruin and priorities. An indirect confirmation of this is the fact that in an artistic residence, which will become part of country initiatives Gridchina will live and not work by young artists, as is the rest of the world, and authors are already known and well sold, with which relations to be built individually order. At the same time Gridchin no secret of his wish to attach to the process and third-party investments, which in his opinion, give him even greater freedom in its own territory. In the meantime, philanthropist, gallery owner, is taking its first steps and puts on the present rather than the future of contemporary art.

- How did the idea to open a gallery?

- I grew up in an artistic environment, and then started collecting. It is this occupation and led me to realize the limits that it implies. I do not have to open a museum to display his collection, and I also can not put it all in their homes. So I decided to open a showroom and begin to work with artists in a completely different manner. And, it should be noted, I call this place is not a gallery, and exhibition hall.
- What's changed for you?

- The fact that we are pursuing primarily commercial purposes. I am primarily interested in communicating with the artists and monitoring the creation of entirely new works of art. This can be called an alternative to traditional collecting. I have put money not just in the picture or object, but in the whole project, which will be exhibited in this hall.

- do you plan to engage in sales or all the work that you will stand, will become part of your collection?

- In different cases will be different. Still gather a collection of interesting to me now, to a lesser extent. I just wanted to help artists realize their ideas, and if the product of our cooperation is interested some kind of corporate or private collection, I will not mind if they would reimburse us our costs.

- And to whom will belong to the work of artists? You'll pay them a fee, take a percentage of sales? How will you build relationships with the artists in this sense? For example, the work Gutova, which are now displayed, they are your?

- Here again there is no one standard scheme. I think I will invest in different projects in different ways and in some cases take a percentage of sales. In the case of Gutov I took a piece of work. All the others - is the property of Dmitry. Perhaps something will sell, but how we will form relationships with these developments, we have not decided yet. Generally, of course, want to receive support and to State and private institutions. Frankly, it would be ideal: I would be able to afford not to think about how much money I have left and whether they have enough to do what we want. But while such arrangements in our country has done poorly, I will try to stretch a little longer at their own expense.

- You are somehow going to influence these mechanisms?

- I do not have sufficient capacity to lobby their interests, but may come up with a form of enterprise that could do it. To date, I decide that I do and what not. I have friends among artists and curators who support my ideas. And finally, I like that the exhibition hall is located on the territory of my own home - it seriously helps to feel good. If I see that this model will be able to make money - and, frankly, I hope so - then so will be even better, I can more effectively support the arts.

- Since mid-September, when you opened the first show, we have not heard anything more about the activities GridchinHall. Do you have any plan for an exhibition?

- No, and this again is due to the fact that it is not a business project in the literal sense. I spend my own money, not having a specific goal to return them. And because of this I can not do the opening with a clear periodicity. I believe that there is a big plus and freedom, because we have an opportunity to discuss, select and make it a show, not limiting itself in a certain segment of time.

- But at least you have some idea how long you are willing to support the arts in this way? You say, somehow determine the amount you're willing to spend on a particular artist?

- Well, of course, wants everything to work as long as possible, because the plans, as it normally is, very much. Ideally, I would like to organize a fund that would be involved in all these plans, including helping to State and other corporations to create conditions for normal functioning of modern art. As for money, in the world one show costs about 50 thousand to 150 thousand euros, which, of course, can not be called a small sum. On the other hand, I do not pay rent and is wholly owned by himself. This allows me to save a lot of money and nerves.

- You are, by the way, if the need arose, could be seen as customers of its neighbors, because you live in one of the most elite districts of Moscow region. They are interested in your venture?

- Live here completely different people, it's still not quite Rublyovka. But I certainly understand what you are saying. Despite the fact that many people think that I opened this place for the wealthy inhabitants of the suburbs, it's not quite true. More precisely, it is not so. I am in contact with their neighbors because they are my neighbors, not because I consider them to potential buyers. While at the same time to exclude it would be foolish. In fact, it is in fact commonplace in European countries - take a day off in the car and drive 150 miles to see any exhibition. In our case it is only 37 kilometers from the Kremlin. Country of space to display modern art - this is a great idea, I think. After all, what could be better than to spend one day in the city, and the exhibition is an excellent opportunity to do so. So my showroom is open to all to whom it is interesting.
- And a lot of people come here on ordinary days?

- When we first opened - yes, here come very different people. As we grow, we will be to learn more and more people will want to visit our room, I'm sure.

- Who is engaged in art policy GridchinHall, except you?

- Its curator is Michael Sidlin, and that it is the main work on the choice of artists and projects. But I also took an active part in the discussion. This is another advantage that everything is where I live: do not need to go anywhere to meet nice people.

- What will the next show?

- While I can not say exactly what will be next. But perhaps we will invite Petersburg artist Vitaly Pushnitsky, that he would draft right here. I put him in a nearby building, highlight the workshop, we will discuss his ideas, and he begins to embody in their lives. Once the work will be ready, we put them.

- So you want to use a scheme in which art works residence?

- Yes, exactly. My capabilities help make it - I have a place to live and where to work. The only difference from traditional residence will be no open competition.

- This is no small distinction. It is possible to understand, you want to work with the already well-known names. And what about the young, which is just the most and need support?

Oleg Khvostov "Absolute Painting»

A key part of the exhibition - the so-called "remakes" - author's interpretation of the samples of classical painting of Leonardo da Vinci to Kiprensky.
