The exhibition is timed to the return of the sculpture "Worker and Collective Farm" in its place at the Exhibition Center, where she stood after her great success in Paris. After years of restoration of the sculpture erected in a specially built for her pavilion-pedestal, returning it to the altitude, which was originally conceived by the authors B. Iofanom and V. Mukhina.
Since architecture is stored in the Museum of sketches, architectural and construction drawings, models and photographs of the International Exhibition in Paris, we invite you to watch the historical authenticity and to see the entire path of a Pavilion from the initial idea to obtain a triumphant Grand Prix.
From the first sketches Iofan actively develops the idea of synthesis and executes a project that combines architecture and sculpture: put on the roof of the pavilion figures of men and women, holding aloft the hands of a hammer and sickle.
Museum exhibits for the first time the original version of the sculpture "Worker and Collective Farm" (1936), created in the studio of architect B. Iofan.
In July 1936 draft of the pavilion of the USSR (Authors: BM Iofan, MV Andrianov, AI Baranskii, SA Gelfeld, DM Dmitrovich, N. Zenkevich, DM Iofan, J. F. Popov, and VV Polyatsky) was approved by the Government.
Soon declared closed competition for the sculpture itself, with a condition - guided by the idea and the overall composition of the sculptural group, as defined by the architect in the project.
The contest sculptors: VA Andreev, M. Manizer, VI Mukhina, ID Shadr. Vera Mukhina only one of all appreciated the suggestion that the engineer P. Lviv on the application as the material of stainless steel. She found the most expressive form of embodiment of the idea of the architect.
Iofan is supported her project, after which Mukhina became a full sponsor in the creation of the pavilion.
Museum shows the author's plaster model of the "Worker and Collective Farm" (1936).
Boris Iofan and Vera Mukhina were harmonious duet in the construction of the Soviet pavilion, where the architecture and sculpture were thought of as equivalent.
