Painter and graphic artist, author of landscapes, genre paintings, numerous drawings and pastels. Born in Kharkov. Elementary art education in Kharkiv realschule with D. Bezperogo. In 1879 he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. He studied at Chistyakov, V. Orlovsky, M. Klodt. From 1881 to 1888 for excellence in drawing and painting was awarded all the other medals: small and large silver and gold. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts with the title of the artist 1-st degree. In 1888 went to the pensioner's trip to France. He studied at the Academy F. Cormon in Paris (1888 - 1892). Lived mainly in Paris, where the advice of A. Bogolyubov. Permanent members of the Paris Salon in 1891. First Sea Lord painter Russia since 1901. The main theme of creativity were seascapes.
