In 2009, calligraphic capital of the world is Moscow.
It will meet the East and West, professional artists and amateurs, classical calligraphy and cutting edge products. The exposition of the exhibition will showcase the work created by recognized masters of calligraphy from 33 countries: the exquisite designs of Slavonic and European letters, strict forms of classical Japanese and traditional Chinese characters, elegant writing of Jewish and Arab schools of calligraphy. Metropolitan audience gets a unique chance to see rare manuscripts, calligraphic masterpieces, setting a record of Guinness, as well as take part in a mini-festival of Japanese, Tibetan, Slavic cultures and to visit the calligraphy master classes. The exhibition is held under the auspices of Russia Commission for UNESCO, was supported by the Ministry of Culture and was greeted with approval of the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church, Russia's rabbinate, the Council of muftis of Russia, and representatives of Buddhist organizations. All this underlines the particular importance of the upcoming events in the preservation of world cultural and historical heritage.
