Committee on Justice and Human Rights of the Seimas of Poland has prepared amendments to the Criminal Code, which criminalizes the production, storage, sale and possession of items containing Nazi symbols.
The need for such a law its proponents explain the desire to limit the mass production and sale of items with Nazi symbols, is in great demand not only in Poland but also in neighboring countries. Experts say the amendment is too radical - if accepted by violators of the law may become collectors.
Currently, the Penal Code of Poland acting art. 256, according to which "public propaganda of the fascist or other totalitarian regime entails a fine or a sentence of imprisonment for up to two years.
Meanwhile, a group of legislators led by former Deputy Minister of Justice and vice-chairman of the Sejm Commission on Justice and Human Rights Beate Kempo believe that the law should be amended to include the offense of manufacturing, distributing, storing, and purchasing and shipping items containing Nazi symbols. The draft amendments will be debated in parliament next week, on the eve of the two anniversaries - the 70 th anniversary of the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the outbreak of World War II.
The need for changes in legislation proponents amendments explain the desire to limit the mass production and sale of items with Nazi symbols, in great demand in neighboring countries - Germany, Austria and the Baltic republics. Many of these items come in the neighboring country of Poland. Its products can be bought for prices ranging from 4 to 6 zlotys per share (but buy at least 100 pieces).
The criminal case against the factory owner Leszek Claus, was terminated after he explained his actions by saying that produced iron crosses on the order of local and foreign film studios and demonstrated them in public. At the same time, according to the director of the Museum of the Warsaw uprising in 1944 by Jan Oldakovskogo, "the fact of the production of such things in a country where alive the memory of war and crimes of the Holocaust, outrageous from a moral standpoint."
According to Kommersant's information, only one city of Poznan has two workshops for making uniforms of World War II era (Mundury Historyczne and Hero Collection), whose services are used by creators of the film "Katyn" and "Valkyrie." In these workshops, anybody can order a uniform taste. Also on the Internet you can buy the remainder after filming props and set items with Nazi symbols - both original and replica.
In an interview with Kommersant Polish experts pointed to the ambiguity of the proposed law, which is a new version is too radical, because it can be used for prosecution of collectors and other persons who by virtue of other circumstances, have become owners of the Nazi antiques, but it does not share Nazi ideology.
