Under the "Origins of modern Russia photos, gallery presents the exhibition Photographer.ru Nikolai Ignatiev.

Ignatiev began studying photography in the late 1970's. With the advent of glasnost and the emergence of a wave of interest in Russia, Ignatiev joins news agency Network Photographers and became one of the leading reporters of his time. He covered events in Afghanistan, China, the Middle East, but most of it is devoted to images of life in the former USSR.

Regardless of the specific profession, in his photographs, was surprisingly delicate and precise work with the shape and color. According to exhibition curator Valeria Schekoldin who knew Ignatieff, "he was drawn to beauty, may due to the fact that life brought to him their unattractive features. The main thing was that his soul was mortgaged grain fine, and it has evolved.

Ignatiev, perhaps, was the first Russian photographer, open shot in the Soviet Soyuz as a free man, and not as a servant of ideology, propaganda, the CPSU Central Committee. Unlike their Soviet predecessors, he created a humanistic reportage (western type) of man and the social environment, and later moved to the artistic reflection of reality. So Ignatiev quickly re-creates the path for the world of documentary photography (of which, for objective reasons to the late 80's was off CCCR). This is a unique place in the history of Nikolai Ignatiev of Russia photos.

During his short life (49 years), Ignatiev had become an independent and mature artist. His style, his work with color and light is still valid. Remaining after thousands of negatives await further reflection and new reads. The exhibition features 30 color works.

The facts of the biography:

Born in 1955 in Moscow. In 1973 entered the MGIMO (Department of International Economic Relations). At the end served as an officer-interpreter in Afghanistan. In 1987 he moved to Britain and began work at the agency Network Photographers. Collaborated with The New York Times, Time, Stern, Sunday Times, Vogue. He died of cancer in London on 15 June 2004.

The Exposition Nikolai Ignatiev Gallery Photographer.ru continued long-term program "Origins of modern Russia's pictures. The program has already been shown the work of Antanas Sutkus, Nikolay Bakharev. The purpose of the program - an attempt to comprehend the modern photographic situation in Russia in general. Gallery Photographer.ru carries "the roots", demonstrating the work of leading photographers of the older generation in the context of the current situation.
