Life and Works of A. Gerasimov inextricably linked to his homeland - Tambov, a city of Kozlov (now Michurinsk), where on Aug. 12, 1881 he was born. His father, Michael Sofronovici was Prasolov (who did the horse-trading). Special affluence commercial activities did not bring my father. The first work A. Gerasimov appeared in student exhibitions in 1909-10, the period of study marked by friendship with the writer Gilyarovskii, help young painter. Also during this time was created one of the most famous works - "Group Portrait of the old Soviet artists I. Pavlova, VN Baksheeva, V.K.Byalynitskogo-Birulia, VN Meshkov. For great merits in the development of Soviet art in 1943, AM Gerasimov was the first Soviet artists received a high title of People's Artist of the USSR.
