Master formal portrait . He also worked in the genres of landscape and still life.
Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts . People's Artist of the USSR.
Winner of the Stalin Prize ( 1946, 1951 ) , the Lenin Prize ( 1982).
He studied at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts Lansere (1924 - 1929).
In 1931 he moved to Moscow .
During his long creative life created portraits of many representatives of the party elite (including Stalin , Khrushchev, Brezhnev ) , for which he received in the artistic environment unofficial title of " first brush of the Politburo ."
For a group portrait figures of Armenian culture - " Vernatun " (1974-1976) was awarded the 1978 Gold Medal of the USSR Academy .
Nalbandyan kept in the Tretyakov Gallery and other major museums.


It is worth noting that one of the self-portraits of the artist from 1982 is in the Uffizi Gallery ( Florence ) .
