Default Edouard Vuillard (1868-1940)

Another Japanese Sandrikov idea - and I forgot to make a story about this remarkable artist, remaining for many in the shadow of the genius of Pierre Bonnard.

Life Vuillard, entirely devoted to the art, proceeded smoothly and without disruption.

Already in early youth, he decided not to follow the family tradition, on which men were doing a military career, and began to study painting. He received an excellent education at the Lycée Condorcet (taught there, among others, Henri Bergson, and Stephane Mallarme!), And then entered the Academy Julian, where at the same time learn Sérusier, Bonnard and Denis, and where the initiative was formed by Paul Sérusier "The Fellowship of the Prophets" - a group known as the Nabis.

This period (1990-1900) was rich in artistic discoveries: neglected puantellizm Signac, whom he was interested at first, Vuillard uses the technique kluazonnizma, wrote open flowers, his paintings are very decorative, like the stained glass windows. Theoretician group was Maurice Denis, who instilled in them a love for Japanese prints, and Sérusier introduced them with the work of Pont-Avenskoy udozhnikov and, above all, Paul Gauguin. In 1891, he worked in a studio with Bonnard and Denis. This year, the castle of Saint-zhEermen-en-Laye held the first exhibition of Nabi, and later in the premises of the magazine "Revue Blanche" ( "White Journal"), which supported this group of artists - his first persolnalnaya exhibition. Since 1893, he developed a style of mushetazh "that is, a letter with a few colored dots, dashes, finding himself in a rather special technique (gouache on glue in conjunction with oil) and all the more readily using cardboard, which allows for a more opaque than cardboard. During this time he painted many portraits of representatives of the educated bourgeoisie, it is very ornamental in which personazhei often merge with the interior, as well as all the time back to the plot of a dressmaker - trade, which his mother had to earn a living from the family after the death of his father, who died when Vuillard was 5 years. Vuillard had worked for the avant-garde theater, he created the wonderful scenery and models of programs.

Vuillard piskal trivial everyday domestic scenes, but he managed to give these scenes an unusually intense emotional tension.
Since 1900, he progressively departs from the Nabi style, its more interested in realism. His recent still lifes and portraits of more than academic, but they are full of the typical emotion for him - in the words of the artist, "written by a man - is to try to catch the sigh of time".

LCR missed yesterday's your theme, but it's the thought: "Where have you been?"
Glad to see your new theme, as always very interesting and liked it, go read yesterday.
Yes, I reports Sandro very much, learned in his photographs of his (thanks to you) favorite Tsuguharu Fujita.
