Michael Stillman was born in 1954 in Vladivostok.


His path to art was long , but the art captures his passion for life and become life itself.

However, the history of art are well acquainted , is open to all possible influences, knowing full well that "modern art - it is a culture of modernist copies", but from reality in the history of art does not escape all that he has created , albeit in modified form , is taken from our current sick of life.

Not only that - it's all acutely experienced and thought , why becomes almost confessional character. His work - self-expression , not only in art , but especially in purely human terms. It is now , because hits the nerves , causing either an instant rejection, or a long " digestion " .

Personal exhibition - a place originally intended to reflect on the fact of what the artist speaks to us . And Michael Stillman said generally all the time about one thing - the brute reality of everyday life almost beggarly , hopeless about the hard existence , brightened only by small and rare joys.

This blanket can be cut into squares, large or small , can they engage or stick one on top of another - all the same it will be about loneliness and insecurity in our human through an urban environment , on the outcrop of the soul with all its passions and weaknesses.

This endless dystopia can turn around and within just one picture where machines , poet, disabled and syringe addict , an angel hovering over the corridors reminiscent of streets, houses with a jaunty curtained , countless stairs , bricks and other planes coexist with mountain peaks.

And all so bright and even entertaining - there's that to consider . But this painting is not entertaining , and bitter , as is not confined within the boundaries of the actual aesthetic problems. Saturation of this type of painting , the central part of which is written on cardboard glued on the main square ( or even two , superimposed on each other), it seems almost feverish .

Even ordinary , commonplace objects are full of anxiety, a feeling of ill-being is permeated everything, and at the same time, there is a delight in the omnipotence of color, its flashy brilliance.

Using the principle of installation , the artist is like a patchwork of fragments of human life. Sharp clashes yadovitorozovato lilac and green , blue and yellow give the work some desperate energy. But at the same time no matter how violent color contrasts were not general composition is balanced , all the " holds" all interlinked .

Sometimes it even seems that the artist is not all things are as important color and broken rhythm of sharp lines , causing irritating strong reactions. Dynamics of color planes , strips, squares , bricks stressed violation prospects.

His art is social, even if it's just a still life, in which we meet with the most mundane objects. Sparsely spaced things sometimes seem separated by infinite space , sometimes a lonely huddle together . Additionally exalted mysterious blue planes , like ripples balancing bricks , bars and grids , these books , just a glass tube and the role of the characters become almost a miserable life, a tragic symbol of soul .

And then next , just fallen from the central square , a bunch of stunted or simple like a child's hand painted flower. Depth and convexity artist achieves color, texture squares (which is partially lost in the black-and- white reproduction ) , a combination of forward and reverse perspectives, so that the space of the painting " deducted " we are not at the expense of optical correctly reproduced items.

These still lifes could be just a list of subjects , but they are blowing a smoldering passion , the aching longing. And here again we do not feel the distance between the perception of the world and spontaneous image of this material world . And let M.Shtilmana work can not be called sinless , but they are sincere. And today , when the art mixed all of the criteria , where each day brings us new names and different estimates of past installations , I would like to recall quite paradoxical , but today is not to lose its significance E.Fage saying : " In art, there is no lack of imperfections dignity."
