Russian painter, graphic artist, representative of symbolism, one of the foremost masters of the circle "Blue Rose". Born in St. Petersburg. Studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1897-1909), in 1909 he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where he studied in the studio of DN Kardovsky (up to 1911). He was one of the organizers of the exhibition "Blue Rose" (1907), as well as one of the founding members of the revived "World of Art" (1910). Put the schedule in the magazines "Libra", "Apollo", "Satyricon" and "New Satyricon". Lived in St. Petersburg, often people came to Moscow.
Unlike most other "Blue Rose" Sudeikin (without the influence of his friend Konstantin Somov) professed some "ironic symbolism" by turning your pictures into paintings splints on topics of art, folklore or "beautiful antiques" (Promenade, 1906 The Tretyakov Gallery, in the park, 1907, Ballet, 1910, both work - in the Russian Museum, actually a series of popular prints Shrovetide heroes, mid-1910s). These colorful, almost doll mini-plays with pointed "unreal" figurines and entourage become a link between his painting and set design. Worked extensively in the theater, from the opera repertory S.I.Mamontova in Moscow "Hermitage" (late 1890s). Designed in conjunction with N.N.Sapunovym Death Tintagiles M. Maeterlinck staged Meyerhold (studio at Cook, 1905). Also collaborated with theaters: Komissarzhevskaya, New Drama, Small and the Chamber. In 1912-1913 participated in the "Russian Seasons" Sergei Diaghilev. He has performed as an illustrator and, in particular, books especially creative and loved him M.A.Kuzmina (Chimes of love, 1912, and others). In 1911 he became one of the organizers and decorators artistic cabaret "Stray Dog".
In 1917 he went to the Crimea, and then - in Tiflis (1919), which also designed the literary cafe ("Himerioni" and "Rook Argonauts"). In 1920 he moved to Marseille from Batum. There was a set designer cabaret "Die Fledermaus" N.F.Balieva in Paris. With this troupe arrived on tour in the U.S. (1922) and settled in New York. He participated as an artist in many performances (theater productions, "the Metropolitan Opera," L.F.Myasina, M.M.Fokina, Dzh.Balanchina, etc.), developing a fruitful tradition of "beautiful theater" modern.
Sudeikin died in 1946
