He painted for the magazines "Satyricon" and "New Satyricon" (1911-1917).
He was one of the organizers of the campaign "Window GROWTH" in Leningrad (1920-1921).

Belonged to the avant-garde "Combining the new trends in art" (1922-1923) under the chairmanship of V. Tatlin, was strongly influenced the latter. Later he was a member of the society "Four Arts". Created a special type of book illustration, book design combines tradition "World of Art" and the Futurists. In the 1920s. created the satirical series "NEP", "New Life," "Love of thugs." The result of daily work with nature began a series of brilliant drawings "acrobat", "ballerina", "guitarist", and numerous sketches of nude nudes. His drawings to the "elephant" Rudyard Kipling, the works of SY Marshak "Yesterday and Today", "Ice Cream", "The Silly Baby Mouse," "The Circus" (all - 1925) "Baggage" (1926), "How did Planer Planer" opened a new era in children's picture book. VV Lebedev, head of department of art editor of children's and young people's literature of the State publishing house, turning it into the center of the creation of highly books for children (1924-1933).
