The plane with Russian icons from the Museum of Andrei Rublev flew from the U.S. to Moscow
Russian icons from the Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art of Andrei Rublev, who were on show in the U.S., safely returned to their homeland. The plane took off with the priceless cargo of today (01/04/2011) to Moscow from New York, ITAR-TASS.
The exhibition "Treasures of Russia", which are icons, opened last fall in a private museum in Clinton (Mass.). Originally it was supposed to last until July this year. However, Russia recently agreed to an early return to their heritage museum home because of threats of attacks on him in the U.S.. They could have arisen in light of last year's U.S. court ruling on the "return" to Jewish movement of Chabad-Lubavitch of historical books and documents, known as a collection of Schneerson.
This collection has never belonged to this organization and did not leave the territory of Russia, the Russian authorities regard the decision of a federal court in Washington on the occasion of its illegal. Nevertheless, the Chassidim immediately warned that after a "reasonable period" will pursue the implementation of the court verdict by any way possible.
As previously reported information service fund "Russian world", after the Russian authorities' decision, Massachusetts museum owner initially refused to recognize the "force majeure", which required an early closing of the exhibition of icons. Then he turned to the same exposure, led to agreement on a preservation for him and his partners in the museum business open access to Russia.
It is known that the U.S. was not undertaken actual attempts to prevent the return home of the Museum of icons named Rublev.
