По умолчанию Crucifix by Michelangelo

The Italian Government bought a crucifix by Michelangelo
A wooden crucifix attributed to Michelangelo, the Italian Government bought from a private collector from Turin, Giancarlo Gallini (Giancarlo Gallini) for 3.25 million euros. On 23 December 2008 to 23 January 2009-the first work will be exhibited in Rome, in the parliament building of the republic, then it will be transferred to one of Florence's museums - the Bargello or the Academy, said agency ANSA.it.

the first time it hit a wooden crucifix in the field of view of Art in 2004. After the initial attribution of his four months exhibited the Florentine museum Horn. Subsequently, the statue returned to the meeting Giancarlo Gallini. After additional research, completed in 2008, the Government of Italy has decided to redeem the work of a collector.

Experts believe that Michelangelo created the crucifix around 1495: while the sculptor was 20 years old. Attribution of work involved in art from the Universities of Florence, Siena and Perugia. The fact that the crucifix made by Michelangelo hand, they persuaded the anatomical precision parts, characteristic of this wizard. Scientists claim that the model for the figure of Christ served as the thirty-year man, who died two days before he saw a sculptor. It is known that the rector of the church of Santo Spirito Nicolo Bikelli allowed to examine the corpses of the young Michelangelo, and possibly open them.

Dzhentilini Giancarlo (Giancarlo Gentilini) from the University of Perugia explained why viewers should not surprise the modest size of the sculptures, although Michelangelo is known as the creator of monumental works. "In his youth he was a close circle of Girolamo Savonarola, who introduced into use in small crucifix ... Most likely, Michelangelo received a commission from someone of his main backers - Bologna, or of Dominican Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de 'Medici," - said Dzhentilini.

bought by the Italian authorities statue for $ 4.3 million could be fake

Italian experts have begun an investigation on suspicion that the government has spent 4.3 million dollars on fake statue of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ of Michelangelo, British media reported.

Carved wooden statue was purchased a year ago, the art dealer from Turin, who claimed that the statue was authentic and was bought by a Florentine family. Initially, the man asked her for more than 21 million dollars, but then the parties agreed to a more reasonable price to 4.3 million

However, the Rome prosecutor's office, specializing in fraud in the arts, beginning this week, the investigation led to suspicions that a large sum went to the forgery.

Purchase of 15 th century statue was greeted with fanfare. First it was presented to Pope Benedict XVI, then exhibited in the Italian Parliament, after she went on tour in the country, where it saw thousands of people. Italian Government had even planned to borrow the statue of the National Gallery in Washington as a gesture of respect toward Barack Obama.

However, several prominent art experts said that the statue was created with his hands is not Michelangelo, but another artist. Disputes specialists not subside: they say, the quality of work does not meet the quality of the remaining works of famous masters, as well as works of Florentine artists of the period in general. According to some experts, the statue was made by the Renaissance sculptor Jacopo Sansovino.

art dealer suspected of deceiving the Government of Italy

Roman investigators specialize in cases involving works of art, started examining the deal, which the Government of Italy has concluded with an art dealer Giancarlo Gallino (Giancarlo Gallino) from Turin. It is about selling a wooden crucifix by Michelangelo on the suspiciously low price: the authorities questioned the authorship of the work. This writes ANSA.
Gallino first asked for the crucifixion of 15 million euros, but quickly agreed to lower the price to 3,25 million. The deal was accomplished in December 2009, two days crucifix solemnly presented with Pope Benedict XVI. Then the work attributed to Michelangelo, was exhibited throughout Italy.

In 2004, experts from Florence, Siena and Perugia for the first time linked the wooden crucifix with the name of the author painting the Sistine Chapel. Art critics have come to the conclusion that the anatomical structure of the body in such detail could only reproduce Michelangelo. Nevertheless, the provenance (origin) of a wooden crucifix was not quite convincing: Gallino stated only that the work of Michelangelo belonged to a certain Florentine family.

In May, Professor at the University of Naples Tomaso Montanari (Tomaso Montanari) stated that there was at least a dozen of these crucifixes end of the XV century, and there is no reason to believe that this was created by Michelangelo. German art Margrit Lisner (Margrit Lisner) suggested that the author may be Jacopo Sansovino.

The Passion of Michelangelo

Italian authorities announced a verification of the transaction, which a year ago, in December 2008-the first, contracted with a private collector and art dealer Giancarlo Gallino (Giancarlo Gallino). He sold the government a wooden crucifix dating from the end of the XV century, arguing that its author was a 20-year-old Michelangelo Buonarroti. Deciding to investigate, the Italians have recognized the fact that during the year, many experts asserted: the work may not be the author of the Sistine Chapel frescoes irrelevant, and, therefore, the purchase was ill-considered. Asked why the authorities have long turned a blind eye to the fact that it was immediately obvious to others, offered many answers, but the most obvious - officials lured the cheapness of the sculpture.
Investigation into the purchase of a wooden figure, known as Cristo Ritrovato, "Christ has regained", will the so-called Court of Accounts (Corte dei Conti) - a quasi-judicial body of state financial control. His staff will work with that will demand all the necessary documents from the Court of Audit Administrative Region of Lazio, who started checking back in June 2009.

For the first time the crucifix was presented to the public in 2004: during the four months it was exhibited in a museum in Florence Horn. But even then the wooden Christ was represented as the work of Michelangelo. Attribution of the work carried out by specialists from the University of Perugia, Florence and Siena. Experts, in particular, argued that they were convinced an extremely high degree of detail of sculpture, specifically - the accuracy of the transfer of the structural features of the human body. Art critics felt that the author was able to perfect a way to transfer the body structure of the 30-year-old man, from the moment of death, which took no more than 48 hours. It is known that the rector of the church of Santo Spirito Nicolo Bikelli allowed to examine the corpses of the young Michelangelo, and possibly open them.

In addition, the proponents of the theory of the authorship of Michelangelo drew attention to the similarities between dubialnoy sculptures and other works of masters - such as the crucifix in the same Santo Spirito, "Pieta in St. Peter's, and even" David. "

Did experts explain why a small wooden crucifix (total 41.3 centimeters) can be confidently attributed to "megalomania" of Michelangelo. According Dzhentilini Giancarlo (Giancarlo Gentilini) from the University of Perugia, in his youth the artist and sculptor, was close circle of the famous preacher Girolamo Savonarola, who coined the small crucifix. Such a carved sculpture of Michelangelo could order some of its major backers - Bologna Dominicans, or Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de 'Medici.

After this crucifix interested in the Italian authorities. Their negotiations with the owner completed the purchase of the sculpture - and buying highly profitable: turinets Giancarlo Gallino, initially requested for the crucifixion of 15 million euros, quickly agreed to part with it for only 3,25 million. Then the incredibly low price of just explained earlier doubts about the authenticity of the work. In particular, the crucifixion was not a solid provenance - a well-documented history of origin. Gallino simply asserted that the sculpture belonged to him a certain Florentine family. Anyway, in December 2008, the deal was made and, apparently, to the mutual satisfaction of the parties. "In fact, we bought at the price of Michelangelo Sansovino" - summed up the art critic Vittorio Sgarbi (Vittorio Sgarbi).

Two days after the purchase of the crucifixion at a ceremony in the Vatican he was handed over to Pope Benedict XVI. Then it was organized very successful tour, during which the sculpture exhibited throughout Italy. Two months crucifix exhibited in Milan Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco), which stores the last, unfinished sculpture of Michelangelo - Pieta Rondanini. In the "reunification" of two works on the theme of Christ's death Italians saw a special meaning. "Finally the young and mature Michelangelo could meet and talk with each other", - said Minister of Culture of Italy Sandro Bondi (Sandro Bondi). The end-point travel crucifixion of the country had become a Florentine Bargello Museum.

However, almost immediately sounded and the voices of skeptics who have pointed not only at an unprecedented low cost of Michelangelo and suspicious accommodating Gallino. Most of suspicion, of course, caused a poor documentation of history of sculpture, as well as the fact that biographers, contemporaries of the artist - Giorgio Vasari and Ascanio Kondivi - never fail to mention that the crucifixion.

Spring with a loud statement was made professor at the University of Naples Tomaso Montanari (Tomaso Montanari). According to him, the history of the acquisition of the sculpture is by a political reason, because no one, except for art historians, who confirmed the authorship of Michelangelo for the transaction does not believe in ownership of the sculpture the grand master of the Renaissance. Scientist asks a rhetorical question: why the Italian authorities, when considering the purchase, ask the opinion of only "their" art and asked what he thinks "a third, disinterested party?

Montanari stated that the crucifixion did not appear on the technique of performance on other work of the sculptor, which he attributed. So, he drew attention to the fact that the figure of Christ is made of linden wood pieces glued together. Art historian argues that disclosed at least a dozen of these crucifixes, but this style was in general a traditional Florentine studios late XV century. "Fair" price for a sculpture, says a scientist from Naples, less than 100 thousand euros, and not three million.

In their doubts Montanari was not alone. Director of the Institute of Art History in Florence (Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz), Alessandro Nova said that he was struck by the fact of the acquisition of the sculpture. Specialist Michelangelo Baroque Paola (Paola Barocchi) noted that such crucifixion - serial job. Art historian Mina Gregori (Mina Gregori), which advised against the Bank of Florence to buy the image of the crucified Christ, said that the state should try to recover their money. The art of Germany Margrit Lisner (Margrit Lisner) suggested that the true author of the sculpture was already mentioned by Jacopo Sansovino (such attribution automatically shifts the dating for several years ahead, as Sansovino was younger Michelangelo). We propose other candidates for the role of the creator of the crucifixion.

The question of authorship is unlikely to be resolved soon. However, it will take an unpleasant turn already, even if the inspectors determine that the government had sufficient grounds to believe Gallino and buy the sculpture. Critics draw attention to the fact that 3.25 million euros were spent in a crisis period when the budget of the Ministry of Culture had already been severely curtailed. The decision of the Accounts Court of inappropriate purchases could jeopardize art critics who have declared for the transaction - and this, in particular, the director of museums in Florence Achidini Cristina (Cristina Acidini) and director of the Vatican Museums, Antonio Paolucci (Antonio Paolucci).

If the purchase is considered unreasonable for the seller's history can result in criminal charges of fraud. In addition, inevitably the question arises, why the deal yet been approved, despite all the doubts. Skeptic Montanari drew attention to the ideological side of the question. According to him, the Ministry of Culture spent a substantial sum is not just for Michelangelo, namely the crucifixion. It is unlikely that the same money would be spent on the figure of satire, ironic art.

big mystery "Little Archer»

ARTinvestment.RU - 26.12.2009, 09:04

In November of this year, the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art presented a new exhibit - a marble sculpture titled "The Little Archer". A small (only about a meter tall) figure with a broken hand and feet, whose deadpan frames mop of curly hair for decades graced the foyer of the mansion on Fifth Avenue, where the cultural department of the French Embassy, and the special attention of the visitors did not enjoy - until art historian Kathleen Weil-Garris Brandt (Kathleen Weil-Garris Brandt) not stated that it is a creation of Michelangelo himself. This assumption made a splash: articles on the marble boy appeared on the front pages of major newspapers and in professional circles a heated debate that periodically flares up today.
Читать дальше...

Press first reported on the opening Brandt in January 1996. Since "Little Archer" had time to visit the best museums in Europe. He was the main exhibit of an exhibition at the Florentine Palazzo Vecchio, as well as spending some time in the Louvre Museum, whose curator, Jean-Rene Gabor (Jean-René Gaborit), does not agree with the attribution Brandt, told the state that the sculpture is "a work of anonymous artists of the late XVI century . Colleagues from the Metropolitan Museum, however, it is not supported: they have the statue is exhibited as the work of Michelangelo. Of course, this solution found and opponents and supporters.

Kathleen Weil-Garris Brandt, a professor at the Institute of Arts and College of Arts and Sciences at New York University. Creative artists of the Renaissance is its specialization. For many years she went to work past that the building on Fifth Avenue, but on the marble boy was not paying attention. Once, Brandt went there at the reception and saw the statue in bright light - it was then that she thought about Michelangelo. Some time later, she returned to photograph the product from all angles. His guesses Brandt presented in two articles published in 1996 and 1997 in the journal Burlington Magazine.

Curator of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts Metropolitan Museum of Art, James Draper (James Draper) had earlier expressed belief that the work created by Michelangelo teacher Bertoldo di Giovanni (Bertoldo di Giovanni), but communicated with Brandt, he was convinced that "The Little Archer" is a product of titanium Renaissance. Draper recalls how at a reception at the mansion researcher said: "My God, this is really it." She invited me to look at [Sculpture], and in doing so, I realized that she had in mind. In normal lighting has become much easier to see how well the boy's hair is cut, as referred to bend his body and the subtle movement of the snake, and I immediately agreed with [Brandt].

According to Draper, at the time of the sculpture by Michelangelo was only about 15 years. This is evidenced by the similarity of item "The Little Archer" and a bronze statue of Apollo or Orpheus, performed Bertoldi (now this work is a collection of the Bargello Museum of Florence).

In the late Columbia University professor James Beck (James Beck), famous for his knowledge of Renaissance art, was quite different opinion. In April 1996, he told ARTnews, that the proportions of the figure - "a big head, wide neck and thin body" - cast doubt on the authorship of Michelangelo. He also did not like the boy's hair. Even the famous "David", he said, his hair "grows from their heads. They are not fastened to the head. "

Some scholars argue that a powerful argument in favor of the hypothesis Brandt is the formal complexity of the sculpture. "The figure is in motion, it rotates - [boy] is about to pull an arrow from the quiver, - says Alexander Nagel (Alexander Nagel), Professor of the Institute of Art, New York University. - But at the same time, it seems to be frozen in eternity. Movement figures into something more. This work not only tells us about some kind of action, it is an image, ready for independent life as a work of art - I think, is the distinguishing feature of the art of Michelangelo. "

Independent researcher John T. Spike (John T. Spike), whose book "The Young Michelangelo: The path to the Sistine Chapel will be published next year, said he believed in the authorship of the artist, when I saw" The Little Archer "in Florence. "External contours of the figures are flexible, as in the drawings by Michelangelo - he managed to make this effect persisted when examining the work from all sides. Sculptors smaller sizes have focused mainly on solid volumes, and the contours of their uninteresting.

About where the sculpture was before the twentieth century, virtually nothing is known. In 1902 she appeared at London auctioneers Christie's, but the buyer is not found. After some time dealer named John Bardeen, Stefano (Stefano Bardini) sold it to the American architect Stanford Whyte (Stanford White). The statue was intended to decorate the New York mansion Payne Whitney (Payne Whitney), which later housed the cultural department of the French Embassy.

Brandt and Draper believes that one of the previous owners of the figures was Jacopo Galli (Jacopo Galli), a Florentine banker, who lived in Rome in the XVI century (although Draper argues that Michelangelo created the work is in Florence, during his apprenticeship). Contemporaries were told that the collection was stored Galli sculpture of Cupid and Apollo, with a vase at her feet. According to Draper, the latter explains the fact that the left leg, the boy is there "a projection". Researchers also think that the sculpture was a time in the gardens of Villa Borghese, where it is noticeably affected, in no way protected from the wind, precipitation, temperature, etc.

"In general provenance rather puny, especially when you consider that [art dealer] Bardeen was a man of dubious reputation - says Lynn Katterson (Lynn Catterson), a specialist in Renaissance art and lecturer at Columbia University. - Also, have domyslivat relationship between a collection of the Borghese and Jacopo Galli - not the fact that this will bring us closer to the truth. "

In 1998, James Beck wrote about "The Little Archer", a long article for the journal Artibus et Historiae, where he asks the question, would sell the statue of John Bardeen on such a tiny price - 2,5 thousand dollars, converted at today's money. "If you have ... it was a work that, in your opinion, created by Michelangelo Buonarroti (or even an artist of his" school "that our case is obviously not suitable as a sculptor or painter, aged 18-20 could hardly be a proper "school"), then would you sell it for 2 500 dollars, or more precisely, for 1 500, given that the amount of sales necessary to subtract the cost base, which is about a thousand dollars? And still have to pay the mediator. So Bardin for his statue, along with stand rescued by today's money of one thousand. Common sense tells me that you (and me too) would have waited until the opportunity to sell the work for a much more substantial sum, or left to its own, rather than sell it as an ordinary, just found a cheap antique trinket.

Beck also remembered another attempt to write "The Little Archer" by Michelangelo, which undertook in 1968 a Florentine art historian Parronki Alessandro (Alessandro Parronchi). Then the scientific community has ignored its arguments. Professor Parronki thirty years, defended his point of view - said Beck. - But it is contrary to scientific consensus. "

Shortly after publication Brandt, James Draper and a researcher at the University of Cambridge Paul Ioannides (Paul Joannides) pointed to the drawings, which they believe can serve as proof of authorship of Michelangelo. In an article that appeared in 1997, in Burlington Magazine, Draper mentioned two drawings of "The Little Archer", performed by the French copyist Jean-Robert Ango (Jean-Robert Ango) in Rome (in the period from 1759 to 1773). The curator said that Ango probably saw the statue in the gardens of Villa Borghese and thought that it was a piece of ancient sculpture. Ioannides found the sketch, the author of which, presumably, was one of the companions of Michelangelo. The picture you can see figure standing in the same position as the "Little Archer". However, they have two differences: first, the boys have painted their hands and feet, and, secondly, his torso and thighs are too muscular, which resembles the shapes of shade on the Sistine Chapel. The figures do not indicate that they represent the image of sculpture by Michelangelo, but Ioannides said that there is nothing unusual. "There are many copies of Renaissance paintings, as careless sketches and carefully executed works, and I can not think of any where it would be written the name of the artist or the name of the image work.

One of the most unexpected of hypotheses put forward a professor at the Institute of Art, New York University Aysler Colin (Colin Eisler). In an article published in October 1996 in the magazine Apollo, he argues that "The Little Archer" is performed by a young Michelangelo forgery of ancient statues.

According to Lynn Katterson (which recently announced that the famous sculpture "Laocoon" - is also by Michelangelo), the artist "it produced many imitations, as well as ancient statues were sold at ten times more expensive works by contemporary artists. For a young sculptor, it was a great way to earn.

Indeed. Even Giorgio Vasari (Giorgio Vasari), wrote that Michelangelo once created a statue of a sleeping Cupid, and then buried it in the acid-soaked earth, to give it "ancient" look. The artist has sold a fake (with the help of a mediator) Cardinal Riario of San Giorgio.

"This is probably one of the most popular stories of fraud", - said William Wallace, professor of art history at Washington University in St. Louis. Wallace is one of the most authoritative experts on Michelangelo. He recently published a biography of the artist. Thirteen years ago, Wallace, as James Beck, refused to recognize the "Little Archer" work of Michelangelo. His opinion does not change. "We are trying to convince [his authorship], using only circumstantial evidence, but for the connoisseur must be convincing in the first place the work itself - he said. - And in this case, the product failed to convince me. "

"Over time, the attribution of themselves, find their level - continues to Wallace (keeping in mind the fact that many works originally attributed to the great artists, later works are less important authors. - AI.). - As the water. It begins with the highest level, then this level is reduced. But I am pleased that this sculpture was in the public domain and that the next ten years, it will be displayed in a public museum, but not the French cultural attache - in fact before it could see only a limited number of people. That is what should be borne in mind connoisseurs of art. It was not always what is now a consensus, and then, as the consensus changes over time. And the time - it usually mercilessly, but it puts everything on its places ».

Carrara marble helped find a picture of Michelangelo

Fahey Everett (Everett Fahy), a specialist in Italian Renaissance and a former curator of European paintings at New York's Metropolitan Museum, said that the painting, bought by the museum 40 years ago, painted by Michelangelo. This was written and The Guardian The Los Angeles Times.
It is about the painting "John the Baptist prophesied of the Messiah" (about 1510), which is attributed workshop Florentine painter Francesco Granacci. Granacci was six years older than Michelangelo, was friends with him and led him to study in the workshop of Domenico Ghirlandaio. In addition, Granacci little help Michelangelo paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Picture size 75.6 to 209.6 cm painted with oil, tempera and gold on wood. Critics, including those from the Uffizi Gallery, previously noted that this work than the rest of the image the Baptist brush Granacci. Fahey believes that he understood why. He analyzed the image, as well as drawing, discovered under the paint, and came to the conclusion that the painting was created in 1506, two years before the artist's work in the Sistine Chapel.

As the scientist said, once, while in the museum, he drew attention to the stones, as seen by artists, they are composed of both the quarry. Michelangelo complained that he spent too much time on the quarries in Carrara, where marble was mined for his "Pieta," Fahey recalled. Similar images were found on other paintings by Michelangelo.

Furthermore, the position is similar to John's two images of male figures, stored in the Louvre. One of these figures, in turn, associated with "David." The art also found similarities between the paintings and drawings from the Uffizi.

The painting was purchased by the Metropolitan Museum at auction at Sotheby's in London in 1970 for 150 thousand U.S. dollars. Now the cost of the painting is estimated at 600 thousand dollars. If the attribution of Michelangelo will be adopted by art historians, "John the Baptist" will cost at least $ 230 million.

65-page study Fahie will be published in Italian magazine Nuovi Studi.

The public is provided an unknown work of Michelangelo

The exhibition in Rome, the audience provided virtually unknown work of Michelangelo, reported ANSA. Despite the fact that the bas-relief depicting the Greek god of the winds of Aeolus, long is attributed the great figure of the Renaissance, to prove his authorship could only recently.
The study involved art Panekuchchia Stefano (Stefano Panecuccia). He worked in the archives of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in a small town Kapranika-Prenestina near Rome, where he kept the sculpture. Panekuchchia meticulously examined the records of the XIV century on the pastoral visit of prominent priests. Each such protocol invariably accompanied by a list of property the church, often with a detailed description of the items. The art historian discovered that from the outset relief was described as the work done by Michelangelo.

The image was created in 1520 as part of restoration work in the church, conducted by the local ruler Girolamo Kapranikoy (Girolamo Capranica). Researchers have found that Michelangelo actually participated in these studies, after his wife Kapraniki, Porcaro Marta (Marta Porcari) impressed with other work by Michelangelo - the statue of Christ in the Roman church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva (her uncle, a sculptor commissioned Porcaro) .

Apparently, Michelangelo decided to portray Eola as a sign that as Kapranika its restoration has breathed new life into the city. The exhibition at Rome's Palazzo Venezia will last until Sept. 5.

in a private collection found an unknown sculpture by Michelangelo

Italian archaeologist Flavia ZIS (Flavia Zisa) found a statue made of sandstone, the author of which could be Michelangelo, said Discovery. The sculpture, has long been in a private collection is now one of the exhibits and has been published. Masters of the Renaissance "in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.
The statue, whose height is 111 centimeters, is a copy of the marble sculpture "Arrotino" ("Knife Grinder"), exhibited in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. I discovered ZIS figure does not include two fingers and nose, causing archaeologists to doubt the authenticity of works. The fact that the authors of fakes often deliberately break off the noses of sculptures to artificially wear out their work.

But then ZIS conducted a study and found the first mention of sand sculptures in the book in 1751. Pandolfo Titi, author, noted that Michelangelo made a copy of the statue "Arrotino", when he worked in Pisa. It is assumed that the observed ZIS statue is precisely this copy.

Moreover, the ZIS believes that the work of Michelangelo is not simply a copy. Please note that the master gave the details, making it an independent work. Archaeologist also found some common features in the considered sculptures and statues of Lorenzo de 'Medici by Michelangelo from the Medici Chapels in Florence.

art historian has found the fifth picture of Michelangelo

Art historian and restorer of works of Michelangelo Antonio Forchellino (Antonio Forcellino) claims to have discovered an unknown wizard. If his suspicion is confirmed, an unfinished painting of the Virgin Mary mourning Jesus, will be the fifth (from other sources - the fourth) extant works of easel paintings by Michelangelo, reports The Sunday Times. In this case, the estimated value of leaf size of 63 to 48 inches could reach $ 118 million.
Forchellino said that with him by e-mail contacted the owner of the painting, an American from Buffalo named Martin. When I saw the product of a restorer, he is in his own words, was speechless. Forchellino said that only a genius could draw a picture, and the genius of this was none other than the creator of the Sistine Chapel frescoes.

Art critic said that he was lucky to find documents proving the authorship of Michelangelo. The painting was created in 1545, and the first mention of it dates back to 1546 year, according to art. In closed Vatican archives, he found a letter in which Cardinal Reginald Pole (later - the last Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury) offers a picture of an Italian cardinal Ercole Gonzaga (Ercole Gonzaga).

X-ray showed that the plan of the artist changed during the operation, which means it does not copy, made by another artist, said Forchellino. His book "Lost Pieta" (La Pieta Perduta) is already out in Italy, and in 2011 will be published in the UK. In 1999 Forchellino already managed to discover an unknown work of Michelangelo - sculpture of Pope Julius II, the customer's frescoes in the Sistine Chapel.
