Several texts, telling of a collection of Colonel Rogers. Collection

One of the best exhibitions in the U.S. model ship is a collection of Henry Rogers (Henry Huddleston Rogers), presented in the Annapolis Maritime Museum, the State of Maryland. Situated in a picturesque area Naval Academy, the collection is on the lower floor of the museum, has an excellent display, good lighting and is open for inspection.

Henry Rogers (1879-1935) was a wealthy man, manager of the railway network, a colonel of artillery of the New York National Guard, a connoisseur and collector of fine wooden models of ships of different styles and techniques.
Collected from various sources in the U.S., Britain and Europe, the collection bequeathed to the Maritime Academy and after the death of Rogers was placed in 1938, the Museum of the Academy. Assembly consists of 108 models of ships and boats, dating from 1650 to 1850 and is filed under 72 glass showcases. Many of these cabinets were delivered together with the model of its creators, while others have the date of manufacture from 1690 to 1710. Additional links:

Henry Rogers bought the first of the Admiralty, the model ROYAL WILLIAMS, 100 - gun ship in about 1916, and continued to buy the Admiralty Ship Models up to about 1932. The average amount paid by Rogers Rogers for one model was about 5 $ 000.00. Colonel Rogers has posted part of his collection at the Museum of Art, until the whole assembly was moved to a private museum located in the Port of Missing Men. When Colonel Henry Haddleston Rogers died in 1935 at age 55, he bequeathed his collection of Naval Academy, United States (Annapolis).

I would like to clarify here, this moment due to "market", "Sales", etc. I have several reports pointed to an interesting for us the nature of relationships with potential customers. And this character in its essence is not grasped now in these words - to sell, market, marketing, and something else there. Of course, you can sell anything if you ask to do it and look for appropriate mechanisms and to create conditions for such sale. We are interested in the possibility of manufacturing on demand. And it's a bit different. HERE appears right factor desires and tastes of the customer, as well as the ability to master its vision to offer the customer the form with which he works. In this case the image of the ship. Plus, what happened to this ship, on it, with his involvement. We can drag this form through the means available to us all this emotional burden, which can give us the story, plus our vision of an individual vessel, inherent to each of the masters. This is what Alex wrote, when he said that the model in one order "conditionally identical. And if you look at it now from this angle, they begin to line up and the materials used by masters (as opposed to real materials of ships), and technologies drawn from other arts (casting jewelry), etc. All these misunderstandings about the fact that this is a simple Shipmodelling and that we only plane and copies.

In this context, interesting description of the history the house of Carl Faberge, without thinking that I found in Wikipedia. Can connoisseurs, this description will seem paltry and tedious, but it is only illustrative material, I do not want in any case, neither himself nor compare our situation with Mr. Faberge. "Books of the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty indicate competition for the Faberge imperial orders to other more well-known jewelers, such as Julius Buti, Edward Bolin, Friedrich Kehl and Leopold Tseftingen. At first, its share in commissions from the court was insignificant, but over the years it grew, Faberge is increasingly mentioned in the books of Court. He was able to quickly win the highest court officials, providing free services to assess, repair and restoration of the jewelry in the Hermitage. Free access to the exhibits allowed to carefully study the techniques of old jewelry, the stylistic features of products made in different epochs.

The niche tastes and requests of the public, open the genius of Faberge, now filled with it - it was an endless stream of useful things - cigarette cases, lamps, bells, clock - is superior to each other with their ingenuity. Each of them has a very fine form and perfection. Instantly recognizable, they were perfect symbol of the status of their owner. By purchasing these expensive toys and gadgets, you fall into the category of "elite". Faberge has a team of uniquely talented designers and high qualifications of their elected masters. Through continuous innovation, he easily outpaced his competitors. It is this desire for novelty allowed him to assert that at the end of each year, he sent in a meltdown all the things that remained unsold. Faberge could proudly say of themselves in an interview: "... if you compare my case with such companies as Tiffany, Busheran, Cartier, then they're likely to find more jewelry than me. They can find ready-made necklaces at 1.5 million rubles. But it's dealers, jewelers and not artists. I am not interested in expensive thing, if its price is only that planted many diamonds or pearls ". This credo featured Faberge from its competitors. He also stated that anything that does not conform to rigid standards of excellence, unichtozhalas.Tem more that the story ended rather sad "All the rest and hid in Russia, as was thought," better times "Faberge family's property was confiscated and plundered"

Here is a small excerpt from the description of the Battle of Trafalgar. And if the customer will wish not only to mentally keep this picture in mind when looking at the "standard model", but see this emotional stress is directly expressed in the external appearance of the model, it can be done. It is necessary only to want - he, the customer. And our job - is to translate the material. "Quarterdeck" Victory "empty. Kryuyselya C" Redutablya "notify the captain Lucas and he immediately calls his boarding parties. Instantly quarterdeck French ship borne gunmen who jumped on the poop on the grid and the guys. In" Victory "Gunners throw their guns in order to reflect the attack. Greeted with grenades and heavy rifle fire, they retreat in disorder in the battery. But the "Victory" is protected by its own value, and French sailors use vain efforts to climb to its lofty walls. Captain Lucas ordered to chop off Borg, the main-yards, and he wants to put yard bridge between the two ships. At this moment midshipman ion and four sailors with anchors placed upon ruslenyah, manage to climb to the quarterdeck "Victory" and they point the way to his friends; hastily arranged boarding party, the senior officer "Redutablya, Lieutenant Dyupote, takes over their superiors and captivates them with his reckless bravery. A few more minutes - and the" Victory "at the mercy of the French! .. But at that instant hail of grapeshot nuclei and clears the quarter-deck" Redutablya. "Temperer" , cutting through the line, went under the nose of the ship, the first salvo had laid on the ground about 200 people. When he came then to traverse the French ship "Temperer" never ceases to smash it with their artillery. trehdechnymi made between the two ships, "Redutabl" struggling for some time ; gun hit him, feed terribly mutilated, mainmast knocked down, rusleni burn, and Captain Lucas still does not give up. But the "Neptune" and "Leviathan", in turn, penetrate the line, and the resistance is impossible. In 55 minutes of the second hours the captain Lucas gives the enemy ship, just beaten by nuclei, and the remnants of the crew, were reduced by 552 persons. "Brave Nelson died in combat with the enemy, it is worthy of his courage" (93) "Victory", "Redutabl" and "Temerer" grappled their masts have fallen from one ship to another, and together coming down to the rear. polukabeltova approached to a distance of "fugue", "Temerer opens fire on him from the right side. Despite a double combat ship" Sovereign Royale "and" Bellil "" Fugue, "a worthy sorevnovatel" Redutablya "does not hesitate abordirovat" Temerer. "Mortally wounded, the fearless Captain Baudouin, this modest hero, whose name was forgotten in France, and that England would give a grave in Westminster, Baudouin from Utah, where he fell, encouraging even his crew, but in vain he tries to keep life, ready to leave. "He died happy because he would not see his ship in the power of the enemy. This new battle is too uneven, Bazin, the captain of a frigate, a senior officer on the" fugue " , wounded, and the team already has left 400 people. The British jump on his main-guy, take possession of the quarter-deck, and despise their own flag French ship.

It seems to me a productive idea to museums - maritime museum visits should be accompanied by the formation of desire and intention to make a model ship part of the interior of his house. Do potential customers. Many of the samples submitted, various designs, materials. For the basic understanding and guidance that can be ordered, the museum as a presentation platform offers enough material for reflection. I host several reports on the largest museums in Europe.

Collections of the Naval Museum of Paris, established by order of King Charles X in 1827, including models of ships and sea life items. The exhibition reflects the evolution of a large gallery of art navigation and the history of the French fleet in the XVII century to the present. Side Gallery exhibition highlights the scientific and technical aspects of navigation.

In 1748, Henri-Louis du Monceau suggested that King Louis XV of France collection of models of ships and naval installations on the condition that they will be displayed in the Louvre and are available for students of the Naval School of Engineering. In 1752, the collection was placed in a room, first floor, near the Academy of Sciences; room called the "Salle de Marine" (Marine Room). Since the French Revolution Salle de Marine was closed. Part of the collection was added to the models belonging to the King personally, transferred to the Ministry of the Navy, the rest goes to various people.

The museum was reopened briefly between 1801 and 1803 years in the Ministry of Navy ..

In 1810, Napoleon ordered that the gallery of 19 models of ships has been placed in his apartment. In 1827, after the restoration of the Bourbons, by decree of Charles X Naval Museum was re-opened in the Louvre. The rooms were also opened in Cherbourg, Brest, Lorient, Rochefort and Toulon.

In 1852 the collection had been added some paintings and ethnographic exhibits. In 1920, the management of the museum was transferred to the French Navy and in 1937 the collection moved into the palace Palais de Chaillot, where the museum was opened on Aug. 15, 1943. Since 1971, the museum became an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Defence.
This is another reference to this museum Maritime Museum in Paris:

At the request of King Louis XIV at each shipyard were to be models of the ships all the existing 5 ranks on the scale 1: 12 or 1: 20, which could serve as a model for the construction of new ships. Judgements were also typical models frigates and other vessels. Among more than 3500 exhibits about 500 models. The most valuable are the model 104-gun ship 1 st class "Soleil Royal" (1690), richly decorated in Baroque style model of a linear 108-gun ship "Louis XV", model of the admiral's galley, "La Real", model ships XVIII century. : 124-gun battleship Le Royal Louis ", a richly decorated 24-oar boat stroller Napoleon Bonaparte. Personally, I live and work in Kharkov. Community artists, thanks to the Internet, maintains liaison and cooperation between its individual members. Masters lived in Odessa, Kharkiv, Poltava, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, etc. Ideology that unites us is formed within the community. Therefore, we can build a common space for discussion of joint action and complex projects. Here's the answer.

I personally have photos of models from the museum there. I can insert into the message one of the versions of the museum. This version looks so: "at the Museum of the models constructed mainly Petrograd modellers in the past 15 years. In August 1990, Vladimir Levin took the first batch of models of ships Mr. Claude Pallanke, dentist, Princess Stephanie. Models built St. Petersburg modeler. At 4 - 5 trips per year for 5 - 6 ships for the trip from St. Petersburg committed Truckers. Gradually, the number of vehicles per trip has risen to 15 - 25. Dentist otgrohal a Maritime Museum, he gathered thousands of models from Russia! Claude Pallanka collected collection of thousands of ships and vessels of all time!
Among them, even the hypothetical ancient BIREME, triremes, Dromona all suspected species. Payment after delivery model in monakovsky Maritime Museum! No advance for you!
Unknown price!
Claude Pallanka the generosity allocates salary through Vladimir Levin. Levin occasionally drove the accumulated model car. Large-scale model of Levin hides in a box on wheels! Great! It's called Trailer! "
Here is a story, or a version of this story. And you said about this museum Zaneta? You can ask for what you need photos of models? Thus, for the development of the theme. In my post about Maritime Museum of Paris has a number - 500 models. Information on other major museums in Europe operates the figures of the same order. It's me to the fact that these objects in the world is not so much. The more good quality of historical or artistic value. In the following message I will continue to post information on other maritime museums.
