In France there is a law that prohibits the auction houses to sell items outside the auction, that is essentially to operate the gallery. Trades are divided into voluntary and involuntary (when selling the property for the debts, for example), and there are auction houses that have the right to bid both digits or only one of them.
In Britain and the United States, for example, sale of items outside the trading is allowed (in other countries - do not know).
Sotheby's and Christie's sought the abolition of the French law.

Interesting turn of the auction business. It is not clear who most benefit from this. It seems that Christie and Sotheby's pulled the blanket over himself, because they already have ads themselves, they do not have to engage in promoting itself as a decent picture. The question whether the artists will benefit, because thus will be the centralization of the market and, in some sense, the monopolization. And they will move "preference" supervisors, ie will be what is happening now at many exhibition projects. Meanwhile, market analysis of art works by French Senate (it was posted here), claims that Sotheby's and Christie's - not quite a landmark, either in terms of prices, either in general terms what is happening in the field and the art itself and its price.

Look at vsetaki is in France Corporation Drouot-ie. Network of public auctions covering the entire country. You know there so many people doing their business, that I doubt whether those Sotheby's and Christie to get something at the expense of French. There are no fools. Galleries there, too, and everywhere there is a house owned by the auction houses smaller.
Sotheby's and Christie's also a public auction. Seems there is something else.
Why in our country there is no public sale of this magnitude?

No. web public auctions, covering all the country, no.
There Drouot Corporation, owned by auctioneers, which owns the premises for the bidding and newspaper Drouot (the proceeds of this latest fill the deficit of the Corporation's activities Drouot - that totally does not interfere with each individual stay the auction house to be profitable or unprofitable - to one another has nothing to do) .

Auctions in France, there are plenty of completely independent of each other Oto auction houses are more or less modest in size (rather more than less), competing with each other. The only thing they do together - is the management of the Corporation Drouot. Moreover, the very corporation Drouot bursting at the seams: as was written in the article about the problems of Drouot, which I recently relocated, more and more auctioneers prefer to conduct their trades are not in the halls of Drouot, and on the side.

If the auction house conducting a tender in Limoges, Building B - in Orleans, and the house in - in Lille, and all these tenders notified in the Gazette, where A, B and C hold together, it does not mean that the above A, B and C have established a network of auctions, after all, try to penetrate.

As Sotheby's and Christie's, everything has already happened at the expense of the French - from the moment of their penetration in the French market to bid them fall to the most interesting and prestigious objects.

In your country there is no public trading of this magnitude (I am speaking, of course, of Sotheby's and Christie's, to talk about the scale in relation to the French auction houses do not have to), because the art market is not well developed and well-being of the population does not allow him to buy luxury items to which are works of art.

But in any case, you will not be particularly concerned, as the activities of auction houses is aimed primarily at the secondary market.

I honestly do not know why I again repeat the same thing: at first I thought that you do not want to understand, but now I realize that you simply can not. Probably, I'm afraid that you may confuse novices who do not know about your fantasy auction.

It is not necessary to understand it, is enough that we can not sell a piece of art at public auction for their absence, and thus all sales are illegally through middlemen and pass into the main foul at the same Sotheby's. The lack of public bidding, and there is no market in our country and dependence on others thin. tastes and most importantly price. Now clear?

Pavel, Auction (or as you write "public auction") and long-existent "Gelos", "Leonid Shishkin", "Sovkom"-why would you go there (on the "public Bidding ") holds its picture?
Because they have their own assessment of artists and a book on the table rating some Pupkin, which they are guided. Generally there is no auction, much less a public auction Gelos-pawnshop to auction rare Closeouts, and the remaining galleries of the auction sale. They are not credible, because there is even the results secret, then perhaps all-rigging promotion, etc. In general, not only do they not trust. Public auction, when everything is open and not dependent on galleries. Bidding fix prices, but there simply sell their goods. This picture must buy at auction.
Try it and you will understand everything.

Every Friday at the Hotel Drouot available free Gazette de Drouot but the old past trades. We ienya whole heap. There are illustrations! If there are published ads FUTURE, past trading results in all cities of the republic, the right to assume that all auctions in France make up the network linked Drouot auction. This name only gives them reliability and hence confidence. If I see a sale shop in Paris, and then remains in Obn and Aix en Provence, is it not us that this is not clear?
