For the first time in St. Petersburg will be presented a personal exhibition of paintings of Moscow artist-émigré Vladimir Titov, now living in France. The structure of the exhibition will include 45 works from the collection of the author.

Vladimir Titov was born in Moscow in 1950, studied with the legendary nonconformist artist Vasily Sitnikov. In the future, and he joined the movement. Themes of his works Titov draws among the urban fringe-dwellers, alleys, its characters - outcasts inhabitants of the megalopolis. But his art is not a continuation of the traditional Russian art, descriptively household tradition, it is not an option and Sots Art. Highlighting the seamy side of life, Titov finds it strange and unusual for the Russian tradition of poetry and beauty.

From my point of view, is an artist - Surrealist, but on preview glance it may seem that on the contrary, he is more "naturalist", and in the hard sense of the word. Analogy, for example, can be made with one literary phenomenon: recall the famous French "natural school" of the great masters of Emile Zola, though his novel "The Man Beast" and other similar. Zola because usually portrayed person in the most repulsive form, with the lowest and horribly dirty side. It turned out very realistic.

Creativity Titova represents, in my opinion, a completely different version. Indeed, those wild dark figure, sometimes resolved in black and red, in fact, little resemblance to real people. This is not naturalism, there is the will of the artist some surreal shift, and instead of people having their black shadows, eerie look-alikes ...
