And happened to me the following, first saw his works in oil and they made quite a feeling of revulsion. People like without the skin, women like twisted inside out. Vobschem desire to watch it anymore. And then by chance at an exhibition of private collections saw the amazingly beautiful pictures, and found that it Schiele. Now and oil paintings can be viewed, then it was too early.

Zhenya, the concept of decent /indecent fluctuate all the time - in the direction of broadening the scope. Of course, now Schiele drawings will not surprise anybody, but we must note that this story takes place in the early 20 th century, when ladies wore tightly laced corsets and skirts to the floor, and none currently no sewing
And half a century earlier was convicted of Baudelaire's "Flowers of the Buildings", Flaubert - for "Madame Bovary" as a kind of painting Courbet was considered indecent.

LSR, Egon Schiele, though, like the Giorgio Morandi, or Paul Klee - one of my favorite artists since the days of my youth. I discovered them for himself a little later than, for example, Repin and Vasnetsov, but they occupy a very honorable place in my pantheon.

Dear Liana - You did not mention about a very significant impact on the work of Klimt Schiele.

How could I not mention? That is, in the first message: "His first works were inspired by the Impressionists, but very quickly he approached the Vienna Secession. At that time he was influenced by Gustav Klimt"

In 1906, Egon Schiele overcame resistance to his guardian, an uncle on his mother, and received a place in the School of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he studied before Gustav Klimt. There, it felt troubled student and sent him to the more traditional Academy of Arts. Schiele duly passed the entrance exam and he was at that time sixteen years. The next year he sought out his idol, Klimt, and showed him some of his drawings. "They have talent?" "Yes" - answered Klimt. "Even too much!" Gustav Klimt liked to encourage more young artists, and it greatly helped Egon Schiele, buying his drawings, or offering to exchange them for some of his own, arranging models for him and introducing him to potential patrons. He also introduced Schiele to the shop crafts associated with the Secession. Egon Schiele was doing casual work for them, he made designs for men's clothes, for women's shoes, and pictures for postcards. In 1908 he opened his first exhibition in Klosterneuberg.
