Prominent Ukrainian landscape painter, graphic artist, master of interior compositions.
Peter A. Levchenko was born June 29, 1856 in merchant family , his father was the owner of the cable factory.
Drawing the future artist was interested in studying in Kharkiv city gymnasium under the direction of artist and teacher Dmitry Espartero, later worked in the Studio Yegor Schreider. The exhibition of student works in 1873 in St. Petersburg was awarded the silver medal.
In 1878 he went studying in Petersburg than much grieved father, who saw his eldest son as a successor of the family business. From 1878 to 1883 was a free student at the Imperial Academy of arts, where he studied with M. Klodt, P. Chistyakov, V. Orlovsky.
Trip in 1895 in Paris and familiarity with the works of the French Impressionists influenced all further work of hodlinka..
Levchenko P. A. lived mainly in Kharkiv, he taught at the Kharkiv city school of drawing and painting. Was one of the founders and a permanent member of the Kharkiv partnership art, the Exhibitor of the Association of traveling art exhibitions. From 1886 to 1904 he was a member of almost all the art exhibitions of the Association of South Russian artists, the Association of artists of Kiev.
Creativity Levchenko strikes deep sincerity and lyricism. As a landscape painter, the artist was extremely attentive to the unique intricacies of the Ukrainian nature, its atmospheric phenomena. This becomes the determining factor in finding suitable composition, color and tones of his paintings: light, translucent paint, through which often lurks the texture of the paintings convey a sense of the morning coolness, early haze , bright colors half-day diversity green or ochre-grey, wet and fresh air.
In addition to landscapes, special hobby Levchenko were interior composition. In Ukraine he was one of the outstanding masters of the genre. In this direction the artist depicts the cozy corners of the house , its furnishings, household house owners.
Creative style of many works of the last period of the artist's life is close to the art Nouveau style. Textured surface of the paintings of this time becomes dull, muted colors, devoid of external splendor.
Peter Levchenko has made a huge contribution to the development of Ukrainian art, combining in their realism and sensual impressionism.
But when life art is not the artist brought neither fame nor wealth. He died in poverty in 1917. Only after his death in 1919, was an exhibition of works by the artist, with more than 700 paintings,150 pieces of graphic art,which revealed the amazing poetry sensual and delicate nature of the artist, a wonderful man.
