Yes, an interesting situation.

Assume that all true picture of the real (let matters how they got there, the war, the Nazis, etc.), we assume are his son.

So what?

Here's how to do it would be to cash in on this and not get caught?

Konstantin, IMHO, the situation is quite usual for hereditary collector-dealer-purpose, all to sell and go to Hawaii it was not, and a living selling slowly that the thread is not too conspicuous, Matisse did not sell

Bloomberg published a long article about the former owner of 13 of the 25 published studies of " treasure ."

This is Fritz Glaser , a lawyer , a Jew from Dresden. Before the war, he sold paintings from his collection. 90%of the collection consists of works on paper. He survived the war and died in 1956 . He is heir - = adopted daughter , whether she will qualify for the pictures , it is not clear whether the court recognizes and Gurlita rightful owner , too , because the pictures were not sold directly to the Nazis , sales documents Glazer destroyed .

And I was right .
These pictures are after the Second World War and the period of de-Nazification , and the period of " overcoming the past " is already checked for legality of purchasing , storage, and any claims to their then- owner was not stated .

Art dealer Hildebrand Gurlitt (1895-1956) on the one hand, belongs to the elite intelligentsia of Germany. His grandfather was a famous Eloise Gurlitt German landscape painter - a romantic sense, wrote the mountains , rivers and waterfalls. My father was a prominent architect , art historian . Among his relatives was a very large composer, music historian . In short, this family gave a galaxy of prominent people in the late XIX- early XX century. On the other hand, the grandmother Hildebrandt Gurlitt from his father was Jewish. This means that it is under the sword of Damocles . When the Nuremberg laws were adopted and the persecution of the Jews , friendships with Jewish artists, and even the purchase of works they could be regarded as evidence against the person.

Finally, Hindelbrand Gurlitt was an expert , researcher and a passionate fan of the art expressionism and modernism. He was friends with Oskar Kokoschka and Max Beckmann , he arranged the exhibition Expressionists , even in the days of the Nazis. In 1930, he lost his job the director of the museum in Zwickau because of his left-wing beliefs. He became director of the Kunsthalle in Hamburg , but in 1933 he was fired from there. In the eyes of many, he was a suspicious person - with Jewish roots , leftist beliefs and sympathies to the artists whose works are in 1937 ranked as the "degenerate art" , and will be disposed of museums. About 20 thousand works of modern art was " cleaned " from the museum's collections in Germany , where they were , by the way , perhaps the best collection of art of the early twentieth century.

Gurlitt dealt with the works of art that the state itself has withdrawn from museums and sold through it. Or - to him. The state was the owner of the works. Was the law stipulates the confiscation of works of the so-called degenerate art . " After the Second World War, the victorious nations decided not to disavow the law retroactively , so as not to blow the international art market. Fact that the Nazis were in dire need of currency , " degenerate art "Fortunately , most of them are not destroyed , and sold . specifically, in the same Switzerland - the largest sale was in Lucerne , went under the hammer when the painting by Chagall , Van Gogh. These paintings Germany has never demanded back .

Therefore , the fact that Hildebrand Gurlitt in 1940 for 4,000 francs bought from the Ministry of Propaganda Nazi Germany, 200 of these works, and in 1941 - 115 more works can not be delivered in the wine. How, for example , Russia can no longer reclaim the American Museum of Van Eyck and Raphael, sold under Stalin from the Hermitage.

Hildebrand Gurlitt was one of four art dealers through whom the sale of modern art were confiscated from German museums . In short, to raise money for the III Reich. And when Hitler ordered Hans Posse , director of the Dresden Gallery , the formation of the collection for its " supermuzeya " which was supposed to appear in Linz, Posse in 1938 Gurlitt attracted to this project. May have played a role , and family ties . His cousin was very close to Dresden art dealer . In any case, Hildebrand Gurlitt attract both art dealer to work on this project. He was driving, for example, in Paris , there to buy works for the museum in Linz. There are a score of 3 million Reichsmarks for the works he bought in 1944 . He received 5 percent. the fee.

The case when in 1943 he came to Max Beckmann , who lived then in Holland , bought several works for serious money to support the artist. It is significant that it is not known painters turned away from him after the war. He was given the job on the show, when in 1947 he became director of the Kunsthalle in Düsseldorf. He was able to do these shows huge hit . He shook my hand , Thomas Mann, he was a respected man .

Finally, when the Americans during the war was more than 125 works from the collection Gurlitt , they were returned to him after their inspection.

It's all there and even more on the Internet. <! - ~ 1 ~ ->
