The famous Russian painter and graphic artist, the historical genre. Born in Moscow. In the first half of the 1870s was in STSHPU in 1875 - 1881 - in a MUZHVZ Vasily Perov , V. Makovsky, Sorokin . In 1881 he was awarded the large silver medal and was named class artist third degree. Since 1877 participated in exhibitions MUZHVZ, St. Petersburg Academy of Arts ( 1884 - 1902), the World's Fair in Chicago ( 1893). Member and exhibitor TPHV (1884 - 1918 , member since 1891) , MTLH (1898 - 1908). Member of Island artists historical painting. He taught at MUZHVZ (1890 - 1894) , professor of art in natural class of higher HU at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts ( 1894 - 1898). In 1897 was awarded the title of Academician. Since 1906 - Member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1890 - 1900 's contributed to the publication of the " Pictorial Review ", "World illustration", "Field". Lived in Moscow. He painted landscapes , portraits , historical and genre paintings. The central theme of creativity were stories boyar Muscovy XVII. Presented in the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum , Pushkin Museum , and many other XM Russia.
