Simkhovich Simcha Faibusovich (Simkhovitch)

Born May 21 /June 2, 1885 ( Novozibkov , Chernigov Province . , Now Bryansk . ) - February 25, 1949 ( Greenwich, . Connecticut , USA). Painter, graphic artist and teacher.
Son of a wimp . In 1905-1911 he studied at the Odessa Art School. In September 1911 , on the recommendation of the school was admitted to the Imperial Academy of Arts on probation , but three months later excluded as not included in the rate of three percent for the Jews . In 1911-1912 served as a private Baturinsky 175th Regiment. In autumn 1913 was enrolled in the Imperial Academy of Arts and studied a volunteer until 1922 . In 1918 he participated in the exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Jewish artists in Moscow. In 1919 he received the 1st prize at the Petrograd art competition "The Great Russian Revolution ." In 1922 the works were exhibited at the International Book Fair in Florence.
In 1924 he emigrated to the United States . The first years of living in New York, in 1930 he moved with his family to Greenwich, . Connecticut, where he opened an art school. He painted still lifes , landscapes , portraits, genre scenes, decorative panels , paintings on the theme of the circus . Addressed to the Russian motives: " Skaters ," " Carousel ," " Russian Dance." The works were reproduced in American magazines .
Held solo exhibitions in New York galleries M. Sterner ( 1927, 1928 , 1929 , 1931) and Middletown ( 1940) , and participated in group exhibitions. In 1932 received the 2nd prize Harris and bronze medal of the Art Institute of Chicago, in 1933 - the third prize of the Art Museum in Worcester (Worcester Art Museum). Was a member of the Brooklyn Society of Artists . Presented at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the National Museum in Krakow.
In 2008-2009, his works were exhibited in the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery in the exhibition " American Artists from the Russian Empire."
