Presented by the author personally. Biography from Wikipedia. Boris Mihailov, one of the most significant contemporary photographers, an engineer by education. His career and the first photographic experiments, he began in Kharkiv. In his work is influenced in the means of art concepts and Social documentary photography. In the late 1960's he had his first exhibition. After the KGB found naked pictures of his wife, he left his job as an engineer and dedicated himself to working with photography. He shot a series of documents scenes of everyday life. His most famous work during this period (1968-1975) was the "Red Series". In these photos, he mainly used the color red to represent the people, groups and urban life. The red color, indicating the October Revolution, the Communist Party and the social system of Soviet society. It is often said that within those works can be found the critical elements to the existing political circumstances. In his work Klebrigkeit (1982) he added an explanation of footnotes, or he uses similar diary writing. As an important part of contemporary art works are his "medical history". Here, he explores the consequences of the collapse of the Soviet Union for the people living there. Therefore, he systematically shot the homeless, who soon began to trust him. More than 500 photos show the situation of people who after the collapse of the Soviet Union were not able to grasp in providing social system. A very direct way of Boris Mikhailov pointed to his critique against the "beauty mask" the uprising post-Soviet capitalist way of life. This is - one of the best works found within the social documentary photography. Boris Mikhailov - the only Ukrainian winner of the "Nobel Prize for photographers, Hasselblad Award (Sweden). Lives and works in Berlin and Kharkov.
