Someone said I no longer remember that solitude to be found in big cities. The village did not retire. But in Moscow, gradually, I noticed a lot of lonely people. Three meetings with Brodsky

For the first time fate brought us together with Joseph in our one-room apartment, located near Metro Airport, and serves as both the studio and my husband - the artist Edward Steinberg. I think that this was the end of 1966. Large, red-haired, with light, rosy-cheeked Joseph at first glance not much in line with the romantic look of a poet it is quite classical Russia's biography. Then I remember how we came to Joseph in the Summer Garden, sat on the bench, again came out on the Neva embankment. Our guide all the time welcomed passersby of all ages and different social categories. Joseph explained by the fact that in the summer every morning he makes his journey through the city by bike. So many of his identity became noticeable. And given the history of his exile, it is natural that Peter Joseph to remain as Pushkin or Blok, a living legend. This reasoning, I am doing now, embedding it in a literary Cycling and it is the St. Petersburg literary context.

Much later, while in St. Petersburg, we traveled the same route by which we kept Joseph. We stood on the Neva embankment in the very spot where, in that our wonderful meeting with Joseph Edicom, while still very young, lively and fun going over the memory misadventures of his youth, more milestones in life that oddly mirrors of each other. Both have not completed high school, both in their early youth were plotting an escape to America. There were some other features of the behavioral similarities, which now can not remember, and then, of course, not recorded, as all our subsequent meeting in Moscow. Now the city without Joseph, without a poet, we seemed really dead. With Mandelshtam feeling: "In St. Petersburg to live - like sleeping in a coffin."

When in Moscow and St. Petersburg in bohemian artistic circles rolled wave of departures, in Moscow there were rumors that the authorities urgently require departure of Joseph. During this period I have read all his poems. And for me, next to the great Osip fall in the other Joseph. And it was quite obvious that without the blessing of Nadezhda the latter decides to leave.

I remember that it was early spring. We Edicom on some cases were at the center on Pushkin Square. Somewhere a long time wandering around, wanted to eat. Went to the cafe "Lyra" and sitting down at a table, found next to a Joseph. We talked about our mutual friends. He told us that before visited Nadezhda, which is very seriously ill, and then said that he was going to leave. Apparently, the blessing took place.

After his departure, I got into the hands of samizdat book "The End of a beautiful era". This was symbolically named the cycle of Brodsky's verse is really an epoch ended and the rebellious culture of the 60's with its existential romanticism.

Where are the so-called creative village, the Village artists, or just a nice living (you know what I mean) of the village, not far from Moscow, within, say, 4 hours drive? I know the good areas Tarusa, Yaroslavl, there was not)), but had heard and well-read, a place of inspiration. Someone could even be called a specific location?

I have been to Yaroslavl, Rybinsk and certain small, those villages, fields and farms that are visible from the windows - this is full капец compared with Belarus, as with Western Europe is probably impossible to compare.
