Ivan Prokofiev Exhibition opens in St. Petersburg
Russian Museum offers an extensive exhibition of sculptures and drawings of the wizard.
The exhibition of little-known works of the sculptor Ivan Prokofiev, dedicated to 250 anniversary of his birth, starting February 26 in the Engineers' Castle in St. Petersburg.
The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalog, which reproduces the bulk of his work, including heavy machine works from the collections of museums-reserves Peterhof and Pavlovsk, as well as monumental works created for the decoration of St. Petersburg architecture and suburban palace and park ensembles.
Ivan Prokofiev (1758-1828) - one of the founders of Russian classicism in sculpture. He studied at the Art Academy in N. Gillet and F. Gordeev, then within five years, has evolved in Paris P. Julien.
Since 1784 Ivan Prokofiev managed sculptures and medal classes at the Academy in St. Petersburg. Among his most famous works - the bas-relief of "genius and artistry" in the Academy building, the reliefs for the Pavlovsk Palace and St Michael's Castle, the relief of "The Adoration of the Bronze serpent" in the attic of the western portal of the Kazan Cathedral, a group of sculptures "Neptune with two rivers - the Neva and Volkhov on facade of the Exchange, bronze lions at the wharf at the Admiralty waterfront.
Recognition received the bronze sculpture "Alcides", "Triton" and "Volkhov", created in 1800-01 years to the Grand Cascade at Petrodvorets.
