Modern art in the midst of crisis
Frosya already noted in the topic about the auction "Impressionism and Modern art", that the contemporary art auction at Sotheby's yesterday went to cheer. I decided to create this new topic, so as not to spoil the beauty.
To my regret, the auctions were very successful, from 27 sold 25 lots in the amount of 17.8 million pounds.
Highlights: Richter bought above the upper estimate of 2.1 million pounds, Manzoni for some crazy 505 thousand pounds, though fortunately Fontana bought for 4.4 million, which is below the lower estimate. although I would like to see it was just 4.4 pounds without the thousands and millions. ))
Anish Kapoor bought nearly twice the lower estimate of 987 thousand pounds. Warhol, as usual, was popular - for 3 self-portrait 30x30 paid 892 thousand pounds. skunk bought for 2.8 million, it is generally trash any. But as well as 315 thousand pounds for an Indian, Rashid Rana, who is personally known to me at all.
Summing up, the auction was more than successful, exceeding the upper estimate: and an unprecedented percentage of sold items. To me it's sad, I was hoping that it would fail in a crisis, but apparently were those who were willing to support it, or vice versa newcomers are buying everything.
