German artist named prices for contemporary art is absurd

German Gerhard Richter, one of the most expensive contemporary artists, called the current prices for works of art "stupid." Richter said this on October 4 at a press conference marking the opening of his exhibition at the Tate Gallery in London, reports Reuters.

At Christie's contemporary art, which will be held during the week from 10 to 16 October, will be put up a picture of the Richter series "The Candle" (Kerze), written in 1982 and has not exhibited since 1986. It is expected that work will go under the hammer for 9-14 million dollars and a lot will become a major upcoming session.

According to Richter, the amount of such leads him into confusion. "It is as absurd as the banking crisis," - said the artist, noting that prices for contemporary art is very difficult to understand.
