In the New Museum in St. Petersburg), 16 February an exhibition of Anatoly Belkin, "Characters"
The exhibition will be on March 25, 2012 From the museum press release: Under the display are black and white photographic portraits of 70 artists in St. Petersburg. On the one hand, it is not an anthology. On the other - quite a complete collection that represents the main heroes of the modern art scene in St. Petersburg. For each image, Anatoly Pavlovich went on a journey through art workshops. Therefore, the characters depicted in a series of reportage their usual work or home environment, in natural light. Or - depending on the image you want to pass - on a city street. It's simple: no pictures were not affected by a glossy effect Photoshop. Photos made Leica camera and printed in the format 50 x 70 cm analog way manual printing. "The camera in the hands of the artist becomes an instrument of Belkin - says in his introduction to the album of the exhibition organizer of Aslan Chekhoev - and each photo - not just a documentary portrait, a visual essay, imbued with sympathy and understanding. Many portrayed - friends for decades. This project - the author's deeply personal judgment about the people who built St. Petersburg art of the late twentieth century, on their terms, on each of them, that they are alive and are also the "Faces" and "acting." The exhibition is accompanied by an album, released 500 copies (400 in Russian, 100 in English). The authors of the texts for the album: critic Alexander Borovsky, and author of the project, the artist Anatoly Belkin. See: http://www.novymuseum.ru/events-muze...szie_lica.html I'd add a few words. The event, I must say, was a success. The public has come very much - it was just too tight. Were many "helpers" and it was amusing to observe and compare their "live" and portraits. We must pay tribute to the Belkin. It opened as the observant, thoughtful and talented photographer. And, indeed, are often caught myself thinking that some of the portraits were more "like" than in real life <! - ~ 1 ~ ->. Just have fun, especially since almost all the characters are well known. The range of persons, imprinted photographer is, in essence, or characters, which are taken directly attributed to the Leningrad underground, or their artistic heirs. Exception bit. By the way, in his short speech, Belkin said that on this show he has almost the first time left an impression of something desired, made for real. So photos 1 - Borowski, Belkin, Czechoslovakia 3 - Kotelnikov 4 - Sopina 5 - Bugaev (Africa) 6 - Yashke 7 - Zinshtein 8 - Uhnalou 9 - Dashevsky 10 - Valran |
