June 4, 2010. in St. Petersburg in the historic part of town, on the second line of Vasilevsky Island, 29, opened the New Museum of Contemporary Art.
The museum was established on the basis of a private collection of Aslan Chekhoev. Unlike most private collections Chekhoev assembly is not built on local experience and subjective preferences, but on understanding the overall picture of the art of our time. The first picture Chekhoev acquired many years ago, while still a very young man. Then, while working in Moscow and then in St. Petersburg, have developed his ideas about modern art process, clarified the collecting priorities. Personal acquaintance with many artists - from the classics to young people live, communicate with leading art historians and art critics have helped to orient the space of contemporary art. Works in the collection are acquired in artists' studios, galleries, auctions, including the famous - London Sotheby's, Christie, McDougle. As the formation of the collection has outgrown private scale. Two years ago the course was chosen to open a public museum. The museum was allotted three floors of the building 70 of the 19 th century, near the metro Vasiliostrovskaya. Then came the turn of builders, architects and designers. The result is a museum space, equipped with the latest technology. Here and system for maintaining temperature and humidity, and accent light and variable modules to change the geometry of the exhibition space. But the main thing - the collection itself and the exposure that covered two floors of the building. The exhibition - the classics of nonconformist art of the Soviet period (L. Kropiwnicki, V. Nemukhin, L. Masterkova, O. Rabin, D. Krasnopevtsev, V. Yankilevsky, V. Pivovarov, M. Schwartzman, E. Steinberg, M. Kulakov, O. Tselkov, V. Yakovlev, A. Zverev, etc.) and contemporary Russian art (AES + F, Kulik, A. Osmolovskii, L. Rotar, D. Gutov, A. Belyaev, Gintovt, V. Pushitskii, G. Maiofis, etc). Artists have already gone down in history, are represented in many museum collections in Moscow and abroad, but generally not in St. Petersburg. That is why the New Museum will take its place in the cultural life of the northern capital. His collection does not duplicate, but complements other museum collections of the city. In St. Petersburg so far only presented here retrospective of contemporary Russian art, from its inception in 1950 until today. Modern art is mostly past the museums, and at the current level of prices it museumification becoming increasingly problematic. In this context, it is difficult to overestimate the significance of the new museum - the first public private modern art museum in St Petersburg. The plans of the museum - the exposition, research, exhibition activities, museum education. The museum is open for cooperation, new ideas and original designs. 199004 Russia St. Petersburg, 6-th line VO , 29 tel.: +7 812 323 50 90 +7 (812) 323 50 90 Fax: +7 812 323 50 90 The museum is located opposite the entrance to the metro Vasileostrovskaya. http://www.novymuseum.ru/ |
