Vase Russian Empire

Alexander Ovchinnikov

Two pairs of vases of the Imperial Porcelain Factory in 1842 production for the first time offered for auction, Sotheby's and become the top-lot planned for 6 July auction. Each vase - by intrigue. First: I will kill rate on record such curiosities - 2,8 million pounds? Second: who actually designed the vase - the favorite daughter of Nicholas I, Olga, Queen Wurttemberg later - as a dowry, or King William I of Wurttemberg, a relative of the Emperor and the allies in the war with Napoleon, and - as a gift?

Experts Sotheby's auction included a vase entitled "Treasures: The Legacy of the aristocracy." They say: vases - one of the largest and most richly decorated. Executed from porcelain, they reach nearly a half meters in height and decorated with copies of paintings by Dutch master Jacob van Loo. Estimeyt - 1,4-1,8 million pounds. "We do not know who was the first owner of the artifact, - told Izvestia at Sotheby's. - In the era of Nicholas I, these vases can be part of a dowry gift or daughters of the imperial monarch. The current owners of vases - the descendants of the kings of Württemberg.

I bring vases Russian masters in their house could, Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna. In 1846, she married Crown Prince Karl of Württemberg and went home husband. Olga brought a rich dowry. "Only for the start of construction of the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas (standing still in Stuttgart), Nicholas I gave her a million in gold. In addition, the money his father Olga actually rebuilt the whole Wuerttemberg. Napoleon since left the kingdom in ruins" - told Izvestia Alexander Rayhrudel, founder of the Foundation "Our new times", which annually conducts the Days of Queen Olga in Stuttgart (this year - July 22-25).

According to the expert, Olga could keep the vase in one of three residences. Old Castle Stuttgart. Villa Berg, Russian housewife turned into a center of social life in Europe and where in 1857 took his brother Alexander II and Napoleon III. Or in the castle Friedrichshafen. Olga has lived here about forty years.

According to another version, the vase could be a gift of Nicholas I, King Wilhelm I of Württemberg and his daughter, Princess Katherine. "Porcelain vase was one of the most effective way to make a gift. Napoleon, for example, gave Alexander I at Tilsit, among many other things, and two vases," - told Izvestia Faibisovich President, Head of the new acquisitions of the Hermitage. Porcelain vases of Nicholas among collectors in the price. 2.8 million pounds - a record sum paid for them at public auction. For this price the vase went twice: in May 2006 - from the auction Sotheby's in November of that year - the auction Christie's. Is it possible to break the record at auction? Bet, gentlemen!

What gave to foreign leaders, our Presidents

This "Izvestia" says Vladimir Shevchenko, the former head of presidential protocol Russia.

Vladimir Shevchenko: Present only good when it touch the soul. Jacques Chirac, we gave the complete works of Pushkin. Because he was still a student, translating Pushkin into French. But Helmut Kohl - a big fan of stone. So we gave him, probably all of our Ural rocks. Queen Elizabeth II - a real Russian samovar. Exactly, exactly as the one that was in the estate of Tolstoy: a bellows, pipes, on the coals. The British Queen is in fact Russian roots. For the same reason we gave her a coffee service tete-a-tete with the views of the Kremlin. By the way, ordered by the Imperial Porcelain Factory.

News: Who was difficult to pick up a gift?

Читать дальше...
Shevchenko: All is not easy. In fact for every human being has to pick his own, personalized gift, explore their interests, hobbies, hobby. This is painstaking work. I remember a long time could not figure out what to give Ronald Reagan. Relations with the U.S. then just beginning to recover after a long break. Charge it! We learned that the president likes to ride, and gave him a saddle handmade Kyrgyz craftsmen. At that time was the Soviet Union, and Kyrgyz were considered the best in this case. Reagan was in ecstasy.

and: What can I give the leaders of African states?

Shevchenko: They love their weapons. So they gave inlaid guns Izhevsk and Tula refineries.

and: Vase give today?

Shevchenko: Vase we also ordered. But they do not all give them one. Do not go with a vase in Japan, do not go with a vase in China. In these countries, their production is very strong. Although the same China can simply take our Palekh. Chinese masters working in miniature lacquer boxes, but for them it is a completely different technology.
