In Pskov, has died - an art historian, restorer, publicist Sawa Yamshchikov. Yamshchikov was born in 1938. Already in the twenty years he began working in the All-Russia restoration center in the department of icon painting. For forty years he managed to revive the hundreds of icons, unique collections of Russian portraits XVIII - XIX centuries.
Also during the Soviet years it was Yamshchikov introduced contemporaries with treasures of private collections of Moscow and Leningrad. And in these gatherings were not only icons, but the best examples of avant-garde art.
Yamshchikov published dozens of books, albums, and catalogs. Published hundreds of articles. For a long time carried regular columns on Central Television. One of the first in the USSR Sawa Yamshchikov became involved in the restitution of cultural property, which during the Second World were removed from the States, fought against the Soviet Union.
In the last years of life Sawa Yamshchikov led an active struggle for the preservation of historical character of the ancient city of Pskov, Reserve "Pushkin Hills, vanishing Moscow.
