Exhibition of paintings by Italian artist Michelangelo da Caravaggio, a rebel and the bully had an impact on the work of Rubens and Velasquez, opened in Pushkin Museum. Pushkin on November 26, RIA Novosti reported the press service of the museum.
The exhibition includes 11 works by Caravaggio - on a global scale is extremely representative exhibition, as the master paintings to have survived not so much, all scattered on different, mostly Italian, and collections. Museum workers to part with them reluctantly, because where there is rarely more than one painting by Caravaggio, but for the sake of even one of his works to the museum welcomes thousands of visitors.
According to the number of the master takes primacy Roman Borghese Gallery - six in the collection of his paintings. In Moscow, there comes "Boy with a basket of fruit," one of Caravaggio's early portraits, which depicts a young man of ordinary people, endowed with a vibrant and sensual beauty.
The full composition of the exposure has not yet disclosed, but it is known that in the Pushkin Museum and you will see the altar painting "Entombment." His show will be a real event: it is the most impressive creations of Caravaggio, which also rarely leaves the walls of the Vatican Palace.
From the Roman church of Santa Maria del Popolo was given one of two written for her large-scale paintings of altar - "The Conversion of Saul."
Experts note that it is present and complete mastery of drawing, and the monumental, along with the unusual for that time, the composition of: the horse, which fell struck by a divine phenomenon of Saul, who occupies a significant portion of the canvas, while the paintings of Caravaggio's predecessors and contemporaries, usually dominated by Biblical heroes.
One of the most famous paintings by Caravaggio - "Supper at Emmaus" - owned by the London National Gallery, in Moscow, it was decided to show him another version of the Brera in Milan Pinakothek, where Jesus Christ is treated less radically.
But the talent to change the canons of Caravaggio especially clear in the exhibition can be seen in two paintings, depicting John the Baptist. On one of them, from the Capitoline Museum, written by a young boy smiling naked image of the Baptist guess only a ram - a symbol of the holy sacrifice and grape leaves, berries, juice which symbolizes Christ's blood. On the other hand, brought from the Roman galleries Corsini, John the Baptist is more restrained and austere, but does not look like an old man or even an adult.
The taste of his contemporaries, Caravaggio's work seemed too extreme and extravagant, and some - such as classicist Nicolas Poussin, accusing him of trying to destroy the painting. This exhibition, prepared on the occasion of the Year of Italy in Russia, will allow everyone to understand how reformist influenced by the artist on the development of history of art.

The exhibition runs until February 19.
