Stenberg brothers Vladimir Avgustovich (1899-1982) and George Avgustovich (1900-1933), Russian artists, representatives of the Russian avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century., Classic film posters. Born in Moscow, Vladimir - March 23 (April 4), 1899, George - 7 (20) in October 1900 in the family A.Stenberga Swedish artist, who came to Russia in 1898 for arts and design works at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair. Studied at the Stroganov School of Industrial Art (1912-1917) and the State Free Art Studios (1917-1920). Were members of the creative association "Obmohu" ("Society of Young Artists", 1919-1920) and "October" (1928). Already as a student joined the constructivism, creating non-objective "tsvetokonstruktsii" of glass, metal and lines, industrial model. Actively participated in the revolutionary propaganda, designed the massive festival. Have made an outstanding contribution to the avant-garde set design, working for the Chamber Theatre A.Ya.Tairova: Babylon lawyer A.B.Mariengofa, 1924 Day and night Sh.Lekoka, 1926 Hairy Ape, Desire Under the Elms (both performances - 1926) and The Negro (1929) YU.O 'Nile Opera beggar and K.Vaylya Brecht (Threepenny Opera, 1930). "In working mock-up" performances, and even tried to rhythmically prejudge figuratively (in their own words) "the whole structure of the staging and movement of the actors." But went down in history primarily as the founders film posters. Started work in Sovkino in 1923, created about 300 advertising posters for movies S.M.Eyzenshteyna, V.I.Pudovkina, D.Vertova, Ch.Chaplina and other directors. Cinema for the first time found here is quite adequate expression in the visual arts, to put into assembling catchy songs that give symbolic quintessential movie. Tasks utilitarian propaganda visibly retreated here to the dramatic elements of the grotesque or a kind of modern carnival (no wonder the master signed his work "2 Stenberg 2" - in the manner of circus posters). G.Stenberg died in a car accident Oct. 15, 1933. Vladimir Stenberg served as chief artist of the All-Russian Agricultural Exhibition (since 1935) and the Museum of Mayakovsky (since 1941). But the main activity was the bed of his design demonstrations strict enough - not allowing any "fancy" Carta - the program of socialist realism (in 1932-1962 he was the chief artist of the Red and the Soviet space in Moscow). Has worked as a designer of exhibitions, going from here to the beautiful designs of pointless dioramas and panels (for a museum in Shuya Frunze, 1949, etc.). In 1968-1980 was engaged in reconstructing the early abstract designs, as well as theater layouts. V.Stenberg died in Moscow on May 1 1982.
