The outstanding Russian painter, master of realistic landscape. In the 1873-1885 years. attended a VD MUZHVZ Polenov, AK Savrasov. In the late 80 's. attended drawing Polenovs evening at home . He was a member of the "Society of the Wanderers ." Since 1897 member of the art association "Munich Secession ." Participated in exhibitions of " The World of Art " ( 1898-1900) . From 1898 he taught at the MUZHVZ, where his students included PI Petrovichev, N. Air vents , etc. In his work Levitan revealed deep and poetic originality and multifaceted beauty of Russian nature. Created a special version of the landscape - the " mood landscape ". His works are in the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum , in many regional museums.
