Ivan Krylov
The famous Russian poet and fabulist
February 13, 1769 - November 9, 1844

Ivan Andreyevich Krylov was born (2) February 13, 1769 in the family of an officer, and his childhood years were spent in the Urals and in Tver. The head of the family died early - in 1778 - leaving a widow with two children in her arms. The family is constantly needed, and Krylov, while still a teenager, he entered the service. In 1782 he moved with his mother in St. Petersburg. Systematically engaged in self-education, studying literature, Italian and French, and mathematics. Soon he entered the service in St. Petersburg of the Exchequer.

In the years 1786-1788 Krylov created a series of comedies, "A writer in the hallway," "Mad family," "Pranksters." In these comedies, he makes fun of debauchery and moral emptiness of high society of the capital. Krylov's satire has displeased the royal family, and he had to leave the province. In Petersburg, the writer is only returned in 1806. In the period from 1812 to 1841 he served as a librarian in the Imperial Public Library.

As a fabulist, Krylov declared itself in 1809, when the printing of his first book of fables. Fable integrally intertwined with the world of Russian proverbs and sayings. Of these, in our language it's a lot of aphorisms, in time, too, turned into proverbs.

.. just opened a casket.
And yes Vaska listens eats.
And you, my friends, however, take - all the musicians not fit.
The trouble, since the oven cobbler pie starts and boots stitch pieman.
Elephant's what I did not notice.
Although the eye sees, so the tooth itching.
Stigma in the fluff
..

Krylov's fables are still relevant today. They have been translated into over 50 languages. Fabulist died November 9, 1844.
