Vasily Surikov was born (12) January 24, 1848.

From 1858 to 1861 he studied at the Krasnoyarsk district school and later served as a clerk in one of the state-owned institutions, amateur practicing drawing and painting.

In 1870 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts students.
